QUOTE(mohyen @ Jun 6 2018, 12:52 AM) You need a China bank card to activate RMB wallet. Actually this regulation only started few months ago, my friend still can get RMB wallet when he registered last year, using local credit card. Top up still has to rely on others to transfer money in, since local cc cant be used for payment. |

QUOTE(twwong @ Jul 16 2018, 05:06 PM) Do I have to be in China to activate China wallet, can use China mobile no problem. Can I link it with my OCBC credit card (usable overseas), will try next time, if doesn't work then never mind. What is BigPay credit card I think starting early this year, to activate china wallet u need china bank card. Before this, anyone can get this feature |

QUOTE(fruitie @ Aug 12 2018, 10:53 PM) I Googled and WeChat FAQ says RMB 1k per day and RMB 2k per month, however I have transferred RMB 1.5k with one transaction to my aunt's China relative 2-3 months ago. No issue at all. Had a China trip lately, limit is definitely rmb 1k per day, but not 2k per monthMost of my payments in China were usually paid by my best friend and I have not used my wallet more than RMB 2k so far, I will try to use as much as I can this time. But if u have a transaction more than 1k, or the transaction will bring ur total spending to more than 1k, it will still go through, n will block u starting from the next one |

QUOTE(fruitie @ Aug 13 2018, 07:18 AM) Thanks for the tips. If one day RMB 1k per day and not RMB 2k per month I'm still OK. I can alternate both WeChat and AliPay. Yup, block for that day n reopen next dayBlock for that day only right? Next day will reopen? Btw, which wallet u prefer to use? Alipay or Wechat? QUOTE(fruitie @ Sep 3 2018, 07:26 PM) Came back from China yesterday and I cannot imagine my life without e-wallets. I only have wechat pay activated.I exchanged RMB 500 cash and only spent RMB 85 cash because my phone had no 4G that time (I was in a high speed rail train). I have both Alipay and WeChat Pay, both are equally convenient. My friend prefers Alipay because she can earn interest (only for verified Mainlanders). WeChat has its advantage too, for e.g. hawkers by roadside, most of them are normal end users, they prefer WeChat Pay. My advice? Get both, no regret at all. Don’t bother about credit cards because they don’t accept ours except if you visit first tier cities like Beijing, Shanghai and etc. My next trip challenge will be, I will only bring RMB 100 cash for whole trip. I haven’t encountered situation where e-wallet payments are not accepted. Even old grandma of 80 years old selling food by roadside accepts WeChat Pay. For my last china trip, i only use cash for hotel deposit, as they dont acccept e-wallet payment; and this one shop that only accepts alipay. Its really nice to go through the day without needing to reach for your wallet to pay, and the hussle to keep the small notes and coins, even beggar's donation can be done by wechat pay. |
