Not possible without binding with another new number. U can try request for account cancellation instead
*
all requests for account cancellation are to be directed to +86-7559 5017 (source wechat malaysia)

i cant find this number online anywhere so i suppose its a direct line for international users to use to contact mainland support??

could this be wechat pay and touchngo hidden agenda behind their promotions to meet this criteria and join the bnm paynet network?

No service charge for banks and only for amounts up to RM5,000. For other participants, it could be free or there could be a fee depending on certain conditions that they need to meet.
I can confirm there is 0.5% cash rebate for topping up WeChat Pay.

Wechat pay Malaysia Wallet and China wallet is two different thing under different regulatory therefore you cannot pay or transfer money thru each other...

I think in the future, to use wechat pay MY in China it will need to go thru third party mini program to make the payment...tat is what wechat is experiment with wechat Pay HK when use in China...
*
oh.. actually wechatpay malaysia is also a mini program in many parts cos if u notice unlike the china wallet many menus are actually webview html.. but so as to not annoy china users i was thinking they would probably allow china users to pay wechat pay MY merchants but not vice versa

I asked my China friend to send me an angpau (I do that from time to time just to ensure my account is still OK) and it popped up the notification asking me to verify with a Chinese ID.

Survive yes but they've been dead quiet for some time that I almost thought they've totally given up.

if they allow payment using myr to merchants in china (with good fx rate), everyone will use lol

agree, too bad it seems quite impossible unless the China government agrees
*
i think they would on certain conditions, our regulators wont simply share all our personal info with them without proper agreement

More to China Government won't agree, not about Malaysia allows or not. They are very strict with this kind of regulation.

they allowed our southern neighbour to scan and pay unionpay qrcodes using their local ewallet (nets), theres a chance we might be able to do the same with wechat in the future
just my 2p
