I just cannot fathom how could this be an issue, after all 12vhpwr isn't something new as it did debuted with 3000 FE series and AFAIK there were no reports of catching fire.

Perhaps the difference were this connector on 3000 FEs were mounted vertical to the PCB rather than lying flat and they were placed at an angle which may or may not reduce routing stress.

(*not my rig*)

Or perhaps Nvidia/AIB cheapened out and use connectors that are substandard quality compared to those in the 3000.

That's because there wasn't 4x8pinx150W going into the 3000 series at that time.
*
Apparently even native ATX3 12vhpwr connections can be replicated similar failures so I doubt it has much to do with the adapter breaking out into 4x 8pin.

nvidia says it is user's fault - not fully plugged in  tongue.gif
*
It could be that way.

My thoughts on this issue is; 50% caused by user did not fully plug in, and 50% due to Nvidia changed the 12vhpwr socket design from vertical and at angle (in 3000 series) to lying flat on the PCB (4000 series). Evidently the 3000 cards, both FE & AIB, did not have such issues.

Nice to see "Malaysia" on official Nvidia announcements:

Also, it's official but we already know it (4070 Ti):

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

And 4090 on the go (kinda):

Yeah "officially" announce here but FE not officially available here, apa guna.

No such thing as 4070ti FE anywhere in the world though
*
Colour me surprised since they launch it with FE rendered images and in fact the unlaunch 4080 (12GB) did indeed comes with FE. Again, the point of launching here is moot as we don't officially get FE anyhow.

haha btw i own a few of 3 series cards before also, my tuf 3070 has the worst temp among all many other 3070. tongue.gif

Btw only good temp asus card was ROG strix 3070.
*
TUFF appears to be nothing more than just their lower end Dual/KO line with better (often 3 fan) coolers but still share the same lower end quality. If you want real Asus products that lives up to their name, get ROG strix models. Better PCB, more durable components that can take high OC, beefier coolers that are overkill, and plenty of RGB bling to increase FPS.

But most if not all the time, the price of ROG Strix cards will be reaching the next tier lower end card (Zotac/PNY). If you ask me, I will rather top up a few hundreds and get the next tier card instead.
Asus rtx4080 ROG Strix = RM7299
PNY rtx4090 verto = RM7739
*
Thats the 'Asus tax' that you would have to pay if want top tier parts. Thats why you should go for their flagship ie 4090 cuz then you will be happy that nothing else will top it for the meantime since AMD gave up chasing the 4090 series. However even lower models has their benefits as you can OC the shit from any Strix and often can match the next tier level.

erm no way a heavily OCed 3070 strix can match a cheap tier 3080, or heavily OCed 4080 strix can match a base 4090 at all
*
Next level bro. 3080 is like 2 levels above or did you forget there exist a 3070Ti?

that's a Strix bro.

if u take care of tat 4090 well enough (regular cleaning and dusting + adequate airflow when in use), it will last as long as the Strix
*
MSI cards only weakness is the crap fans they came with that I heard will give out soon after warranty ends, while Strix seems to last like forever. There is even a marketplace in Ali for replacement MSI Dual & Trio fans.

Yes Strix is crazy money for what it is but Asus will certainly give you what you pay for.

a strix 3060ti can't even match a low tier 3070 even when the gap is the closest of all 3000 series cards
iinm last year or two there's forumers talking about crap strix fans in this thread too biggrin.gif
*
That Strix 3060Ti after OC is just 7fps behind 3070 FE, which is a better card than those from B Tier (Palit, Zotac)

user posted image

7fps from 180 is just 3% difference.

And how many strix owners have that issue vs the numbers sold? Of course there are no perfect products, not even Asus, but there is a reason why they could command such high prices for decades and people actually willing to pay that premium. Maybe not you or me but there are many out there.

When u guys talking about gpu tier, is it tier in term of reliability or overclock ability?
Is it card like zotac, palit etc will have short life span than asus?
*
Regardless of any brands, any of them should give you standard performance out of the box and should do so long after warranty ends.

What sets Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, etc top tier cards apart from others (or even their lower range variants) are their PCB design, component selection, the many overkill VRMs and power input, how chonky the coolers are, and how thermally efficient are that cooler. All these will translate to a card that can run cooler, more silently or inversely have a bigger OC headroom.

Even without OCing, a well designed card will have ample power budget headroom which meant it could automatically boost to higher clocks.

rm2649 for the strix 3060ti, meanwhile base 3070 was rm2399. A undervolted 3070 is way nicer than highly OCed 3060ti, way lower power consumption when losing just around 5% fps, and gpu became way cooler too. strix oced is probably using 250watts+, last time my undervolted 3070 probably around ~170+ watts, for the same performance
*
Depends on the market, generally global market prices are tiered more sensibly

user posted image

But yes, Strix are crazy money in anywhere and which is why they are halo products and people who buys them either has a use case for its capabilities or having too much money. Its like the AMG for Mercedes.

incorrect comparison

says both are cars

low tier 3070 is a 200hp with basic features
strix 3060 ti is a 170hp with other features

in the end 200hp still over-run u anytime
*
Not quite right.

If that 3070 comes with 200HP
And that Strix comes standard with 170HP but it is alwiz tunable to 199HP

Sure you wont outrun the 3070 but it gets dang near it for a far much more cheaper price.

Thats the value proposition of Strix

Again 4090 is TWO (2) tiers above 4080 or do you think there will never be a 4080Ti? Has there been a standard model without a Ti tier? So whos not accepting the facts? LOL

I don't have a Strix or even thought to ever own one as I don't see its value proposition to my own use case but that doesn't mean Strix owners are idiots that don't value money. They have their use case and I see the validity from their POV.

You may or may not agree with that but that's my thought and with that I will stop further replies on this matter.

Thier use case is easy bro, money overloaded till don't know where to spend. Buy the best the money can have that's RTX4090 strix OC.

For RTX 4080 strix and below, people buying strix version is either dumb or not rich enough trying to be rich.  tongue.gif
*
That's like saying people who wants to buy Mercedes should just get S Class because getting a C or A Class meant your a poser who isn't rich enough to get a real Merc. There are people who sees value differently, moreso in Western countries where the price gap between an Asus and say a Zotac isn't that a huge difference for it to be unaffordable. As always buy what one can afford and not being envious for those who could afford something better.

A strix compared to a palit or gigabyte with the same gpu is not like an S class vs an E class. It’s more like putting fancy rims on your S class and thinking it’s faster than the other S classes.

Someone fell for the strix marketing lmao
*
Hahaha except that I fell for the opposite side of the scale and instead got my 3060Ti from a relatively obscure brand: Manli.
Here is my review of it https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5341702

Cheers! cool2.gif
