yeah games nowdays can hit the 8gb mark depending on your graphics settings in game but then again it also comes down to your gaming resolution as higher textures are meant for 4k displays so you can see the details. RTX 2080 is more for 1440p gaming just like 1080ti but 1080ti has the advantage on vram size.

somw games you can utilize the extra performance of these cards even on 1440p, for example final fantasy xv and monster hunter world.

My 1070ti overclocked is faster than 1080 FE and it choked on both games at 60fps high settings and 45fps ultra settings

2080 performance = 1080ti oc. but only 8gb. better stick to 1080ti.

4k max quality need bigger vram.

since u have 4k screen its best u go for 2080ti even on 60hz panel , u know u will be locked 60fps all the time while gaming on 4k res. But we still need to see DLSS in action but what i dont like is it supports certain games only which is not good, hope it will be widely adopted if the 2080 can do 4k 60fps locked on DLSS then 2080 is ur go to card.

All i can say is that 1080ti also not enuf horsepower for 4k 60fps locked. U will need to sacrifice some details or u can play with GPU scaling to run internal game resolution at maybe 1800p or 1900p and then scale to full 4k res to get locked 60fps.

Nvidia doesnt do that, i have an older system with gtx 760 2gb till today it can still run latest games with latest drivers installed no issues. No worries bro if u plan to get a 1080ti u better do it fast alot of people who are holding their money for a 2080 are gunning for 1080ti and stocks are gonna deplete soon.

I think this is Nvidia strategy to get the 1080ti stocks to deplete fast.

If budjet no issue, go with 2080.

But If I were you, I would be sufficient with 1080ti and use the extra money on other parts.

Nvidia actually doesn't gimp old cards anymore. I use my 980ti with latest driver and it still give the same performance. I even had an older driver backup just in case they really gimp. I never needed to use it lol. Tho I worry if they might gimp the 10 series in favor of 20 series this time lol

I'd go 1080ti, it's way way cheaper, it performs the same as a 2080. Despite 2080 having the RT tech and tensor cores, if raytracing game settings can only do 40fps for 1080p, what's the point of that 4k display lol. I don't see a need for RT yet. Maybe the next gen 30 series could handle RT better, but right now it's not good for those with higher than 1080p displays.

Plus if you buy a 20 series now, what games can you even play with raytracing feature? None atm. If you want 2080ti I'd say go for it since it does a lot better with 4k, but 2080 nah.. 1080ti will do, cheaper as well.

What GC you are using now ? if you are on 4k then it's fine upgrade.Since it's installment CC i assume , then it'd be fine if your card is only for GC.Every month extra 400 installment.

not stuck with 1080ti, but it still punch alot even on my 3440x1440p monitor.
while we are reaching era where all benchie/demo on 4k resolution, it didn't surprise me when nvidia is demoing their new tech in 1080p. (you know something is not right).
just go on par with gpu and your monitor?
just play the waiting game. since now on "old games", the 2080 perform similiar to 1080ti at higher price.
and the selling point of 2080 is RTX & DLSS, which now nowhere near to be tested for the consumer to know how exactly powerful is this new GC is.

DLSS already tested on FFXV and their demo intersomething
DLSS removes jaggies very nicely and provides 2080ti without dlss performance
