Bought a used Xeon X5675 CPU on E-bay for USD $30 just for fun.
Using Asus X58 Rampage III Formula motherboard that I bought back in 2009. OCed the CPU to 4.4GHz on air.
Here's the Time Spy result coupled with RTX 2080 Ti.

Lets just hope the wait for AMD 7nm is not long. Prices are not good with no competition. Nvidia charging USD1000+ for graphic card is insane.
*
amd too invested in their current ipc and focusing on core scaling with fabrication and some clock speed bump on da cpu. they might make da same mistake again with athlon if intel new ipc is insane gain

samething with their gpu. insane amount of cores that doesnt translate in performance for gaming

AMD CES live stream happening right now..

Just announced their 7nm Radeon VII card..

Apparently its shooting for 2080 performance.. but price hasn't been announced yet..

16 GB HBM 2 @ 1TB/s memory bandwidth weiiii

No competition for the 2060 RTX though sad.gif
*
amd doing a jensen rtx launch

no proper numbers against nvidia

all she promise was 25% faster than vega 64

good lah, let him keep increase price. Now stock price even fall like hell.

Next year got Intel come in. That time got 3, see can keep increase price or not.
The vga market is that small only. 2 already not enough to eat later got 3. Lucky got AI and other thing that need it, if not, not many people keep feeding them with that price.

People want is GTX1100 series rather than fancy things RTX with jack up price.
*
dei tambi

all in cahoots. thet price match and not bring down da pricing.

if intel has a competitive gpu it will price match slot with whatever nvidia equivalent.

semua mahu duit.

gtx1100 .. wont be cheap also.

see whether those that like to chase can keep support them forever or let them fall down like IPhone. (IPhone like to jack up the price from each new model now sales drop like hell) They though apple supporter can keep support forever no matter what price they put in without much useful and new things add in.

No one will keep support something that keep increase the price without much value introduce into it.

When ryzen came in, AMD also not price to match slot with whatever intel equivalent. It provide more with cheaper price so see Intel want to get GPU market or not.
Epic store want to compete with valve and now they offer more for developer to go exclusive with them.
*
china phones doing this for brand marketing. once da name sticks.. price will go up.

That pricing is a shady. I learned my lesson on how excited I was when I jumped the Polaris hype train haha! I always take everything with a grain of salt. Until the reviews are out, it's all just marketing.
*
amd can even create the baddest gpu on da planet..
but with crappy driver support ( generally u see their cards fly after a year) .. theres no point in any performance numbers on launch

The new 418.81 driver causes a lot of blanking. It got rid of the slight flickering on the top corner but the blanking is so bad, I had to revert to the previous driver. No bueno for me. Using a GTX 1080.
*
MS been Fing up drivers with their updates which causes blanking ( out of range ) with nvidia drivers. had to ddu few times last 6 months and reinstall.

With all the DLSS hoo-hum going around now, I guess Pascal is still a better buy?
GTX 1070 vs RTX2060
GTX 1080 vs RTX2070
GTX 1080 Ti vs RTX2080
*
nvidia has preconfigured the dlss of a gpu to a resolution for ray tracing (dxr)
so 2060 @1080
2080ti@4k

afaik u cant set dlss lower than 4k for 2080ti

just on the pipeline design .. if more devs now has game engine that sends out shader/raster sametime.. turing will trash pascal.

When is the price crazy actually?

RTX 2080 Ti can be acquired for under RM 5k, not far off from GTX 1080 Ti was but a lot faster at that.

You get GTX 1080 Ti performance level with RTX 2080 with is RM 3k+, again not crazy price.

The list goes on.
*
think he meant nvidia maintained the cost performance per dollar for nearly 4 years.

by right the 2080ti should have been at the 1080ti price.

this gen of cards .. we are only seeing major gains in vulkan and hdr implementation.

the advantage of the new pipeline on directX .. not yet. guessing its more due to current game engines or devs still coding on what works before.

pricing wise the 1660/1660ti has out perform the previous gen 1060.

amd no diff btw. they priced their card at 2080 .. announcing the same cost dollar per performance

OK.

RTX 2060 and below are actually really good for performance per dollar.

RTX 2070 and above, slight improvement from before.

At least now there's RTX 2080 Ti for sub RM 5k.
*
those are the lower binned chip.

I don't see a point of getting it this early either. I'll just wait for the tech to mature first, and for it to become more affordable.
*
from what i can see.. its not the hardware tech maturity.
its new game engine design to take advantage of simultaneous diff types of instruction being executed together.

took a long time for game devs to accept dx11.

if i need to games on 1440p UW full max setting >100hz...

can 2080 handle that? or need 2080ti?
*
to be frank only 2080ti can handle most games 1440p ultra with decent AA to get avg 100fps with min fps arnd 60

take note ultra vs very high and even vs high in moving/changing scene type games.. its not really noticeable. whats noticeable is the FPS hit.

ultra was nvr meant for dev interpretation of the game look but more to pushing boundaries on the game engine they use.

I still can't seem to make the leap to RTX GPUs... If I were to upgrade from my 1080 Ti, it would only make sense to go to 2080 Ti. But the difference in performance between the two in non-RTX titles, that unfortunately I feel I cannot justify.

"Metro Exodus" takes the cake for best RTX implementation followed by "BFV".

SotTR is  shakehead.gif

...still not enough to make me excited to make that leap to 20-series.

What would it take? Perhaps "Cyberpunk 2077". RTX is still 'nice to have' to me.
*
all depends what reso/fps you are lookin for

pro
the 2080ti.. beats the 1080ti by 30%..
only dx12 35%... vulkan no need to even mention aka slaughters it

cons
its a very hot gpu
power hungry
best performance see under water with mod bios
da price... 30% gain but price at 50% more
it feels smoother. dont know how to quantify this

Pretty much, you're using the cheapest model that's sub RM 5k for comparison?

Cards often lose out on price to performance ratio as they go higher up (and lower down as well).
*
no
its series vs series
strix 2080ti vs 1080ti strix
or aorus 2080ti vs 1080ti aorus
etc

i wouldnt buy the lowest end rtx 2080ti btw
1. cause of that chip binning ( although strix non oc version has been known to clock more .. it has the lower bin chip)
2. modded bios is a must.

1080ti worst than 2060?
*
tensor cores.. RT cores.. architecture that can run simultaneous diff types of instruction ( which the DXR most probably coded for this)

was a losing battle before the battle even begun.

Well lets see how the non nvidia ray tracing tech/performance goes. Gtx users might get a boost if it proves to be too good/devs switch and optimize code.
#wishfulthinking
*
its the DXR from MS. it would have been coded inline with RTX architecture since .. Nvidia cards only had tensor cards for them to test with afaik. So only hope is maybe on AMD side.
