IKEA Installer - Cost RM 1,800 , 2 days to complete , you just need to inspect and tell them how you want it.

Install yourself - Cost RM 500 (or more) , est one week to plan, measure, study how to install, drill, clean... there might be possibilities of you getting frustrated, missed out some parts, uneven installation. all these to save RM1300

If you consider based on the above points, its better to ask the IKEA installers.

Ikea cabinet kitchen and the rest of Ikea furniture is design to DIY in mind. So it able to assembly yourself.

With the saving of RM1300 minus the tools cost, you still have the room to make mistake and learn. RM1300 can buy many extra parts if you wrongly cut the cabinet or install upside down. And you earn some tools too.

Don't be afraid to learn some new skill. It is not difficult if you have the urge to diy and handyman.

After all what to loose ?

u deserve a cookies

i was thinking this as well, IKEA is DIY based.. mostly the mistake will be done at the worktop if cut wrongly.. but worst case if u can go and get a nother new one at 200+ a piece.. for my case i just need 2 only

i have the urge to DIY as mostly everything in my house i been doing it on my own (except for aircond)

Since you have most of the tools required and installing this would cost you additional RM450 only, why not?

RM 1800 is quite pricey for a 2 days job. Since they provide you the manual, then just go for DIY.

Installing cabinets on your own is one thing. I feel design is also very important.

One of the problem of Ikea kitchen cabinets is that no one comes to your house to actually inspect the space and take proper measurements. You just show them your floor plan, sometimes with inaccurate measurements and they put together something for you. In your case, you designed your own which could even be worse as you are not experience in these things. There could be problems that you overlook like - your walls uneven, the ceiling too high/ too low, your water pipe not in the right location, electrical & gas supply, ventilation outlet...etc etc. Its not only putting one puzzle together but multiple puzzles to make one complete kitchen.

If you can, please post your plan and elevation view of your cabinets here and also the floor plan of your kitchen space? If you do not have these ready in hand, then I feel you may run into unknown problems later on. Putting a few boxes together is the last of your worries

Some hints and tricks from my first time metod assembly experience:

1. Impact driver (wrench) is recommended over drill. Metod base cabinet are so hard for drill or human hand to screw in.

2. If you are to cut the worktop in straight line, circular saw is recomended. Handsaw or jigsaw will take lots of time to make perfect straight line. Anyway, to save cost, it is still doable for jigsaw with special blade and guide.

3. Use 3 inches or more wall plug for better piece of mind. I used 5 inches 8mm type. They are holding strong until today.

4. Assemble cabinet first before drilling for hanging rail. This allows you to have actual cabinet for measurement . You may consider to install 4 legs first and plinth to get the perfect position of hanging rail.

5. For gluing the laminate edge to the cut off side of worktop, you may use silicon instead of the recommended hot glue gun by the manual.

in fact, i did it 10 years ago.

Am moving to a new house in few months and after check around; we are going back to Ikea kitchen cabinet. Our current setup still good except wear and tear at doors due to heavy usage. It would totally look new if we just change the current doors. Good quality at reasonable price.

''Mind to share with us, what kind of cabinet you are going to installing?

including sink? stove? hood? or any others basket/ corner unit/ pull out unit?

It may get it done by yourself, but that might be require more than 2 manpower for the installation.''

Someone mentioned 2 people.
That's important, installing large furniture or cabinets needs at least 2 peoplr, it's difficult with one, even with the right skills and tools. You have a helper who can help?

Better to hire ikea kitchen contractor to fix. Better safe than sorry. These contractors are top notch contractors. Their final result is outstanding when they did my kitchen.
