i just did design in IKEA planning tool for my kitchen cabinet, brought the design to the store and they help to finalize it

after finalized, i made the purchase and it will be delivered by next friday, now next step is the installation

i went to IKEA installation service and they quoted me for 1.8k for the 2 days job, for me its rather expensive

i'm thinking to make my own installation and the tool cost a fraction of the cost and can save a lot

any of the member doing their own installation for IKEA kitchen can share their experience?

appreciate your input

totally agree. on paper I know how it's all installed. But still needed a carpenter to get things done properly.

lots of unseen work

leveling the base cabinets

cutting the hole for sink/hob other stuff

hanging the wall cabinets

adjusting the doors etc

custom cut all the panels to match your walls, fill gaps with caulking etc

of coz the most tedious, assembly process. biggrin.gif

Do you have the required tools to install it?
level, long wall plug, impact driver, jigsaw or circular saw and etc?

I assembled my 15ft metod kitchen 3 years ago.
doable for one person within a week of after work hours.

honestly, I didnt really bother the 25 yrs warranty as the installation cost saving is enough for me to buy lots of replacement parts.
I knew how the whole things work which make it easier for future self repair work.

the most important question is whether you are a handyman.

i dont have the tools and i will invest to buy it, the tool cost is 25% of the price they quoted me.. glad to see someone who did the assemble on their own.. i'm quite the handy person as when i enter the house, all the things i install on my own, lamp, ceiling fan, water heater, mirror, and assemble the furniture

i think i will go for self installation for better satisfaction

you need to have plenty of consideration taken in mind, such as
1) damage the parts carelessly
2) missing parts by human factor (maybe your dog carry away or you mistakenly took it away or throw it away)
3) wrongly assemble and damage the body or parts
so what is your contingency if above happen in the degree of seriousness either its low or high
put away the money first, can you handle the situation above?
will it be where you damage those parts to the level that you need to spent a lot to cover back your mistake?

there are reason why engaging installation service from ikea is expensive because they know every detail well and they have the skill to assemble and resemble everything from 0 to 100 and 100 to 0 which is something not under your knowledge or will spent you plenty of time and effort to just get from 0-50

so good luck is the best advise to you if you insists to do it yourself

I did my metod kitchen for pantry - 6 ft length.

the most annoyinh thing with DIY cabinet installation - doors not aligned, making a zig zag pattern. Need to invest time to adjust door hinges until all aligned.

Other challenge is to ensure cut panels are straight (or slanted if necessary to match wall geometry)

IKEA Installer - Cost RM 1,800 , 2 days to complete , you just need to inspect and tell them how you want it.

Install yourself - Cost RM 500 (or more) , est one week to plan, measure, study how to install, drill, clean... there might be possibilities of you getting frustrated, missed out some parts, uneven installation. all these to save RM1300

If you consider based on the above points, its better to ask the IKEA installers.

for me to do it, i think it will be quite easy (just the time factor)
cos i got most of the tools needed for the job.

so you gotta research which right tools to get to complete it in short time,. example jigsaw for the cutout of the sink hole, cordless drill etc.
