I heard that sometimes from experienced grab/uber driver that there are times they pickup a very suspicious passenger. for example like this :

this one grab driver told me that sometime when at night , he got a request to fetch a foreigner passenger, so when he arrived this passenger with his bag will ride on to the car and the grab/uber driver will drove him to the designated location, along the way suddenly there is a police roadblock, the passenger is panic then drop his bag down and hide it under the driver seat, well of course the driver notice its but say nothing since maybe it just his bag with a dirty laundry. then when stopped at the roadblock, the police pull the grab/uber driver car over, the police question the driver who is the passenger? so the grab/uber driver tell he is a grab/uber driver and just ferrying a passenger, so the police ask the passenger to come out to ask some question and do body search.. suddenly the grab driver recall the bag that this passenger kick under the driver seat that the passenger is hiding it..

so the question are.. in situation like this , should you inform the police regarding the suspicious bag under the seat? since if the foriegner caught, and the car is also search.. you will also kena/caught too .. this is a risky situation.. so for you guys , what you should do?

If you inform the police about the bag and they find illegal stuff in it like drugs then you CAN also be arrested to assist in investigation or they will just ask to to give statement at police station. Depends on the officer really.

If you dont inform the police and they search your car and find the bag then you can be arrested for being an accomplice.

Install car camera, good quality + 128g sd card cost less than RM300.

THis one usually capture the FACE of the passenger. Not the small bag they throw/kick under the chair.

For rear cam, u can install on the light instead of behind

Its better u go car accessory to install after purchase from lazada.

This is one of the untold risk when you are driving for Uber/Grab.
It could be drugs, it could be illegal immigrants, it could be anything.
When something happens, the same old policy applies - settle yourself.

So, be smart on who u are picking up.

unfortunately, there's no way of telling who ur picking up or what background they have.

we don't know the sex or their names from the screen. their uber nick could be just 'Lim' and it can be a 18yrs old dude or 60yrs old auntie.

picked up africans more times than i liked..some fishy ones, some rude ones, some nice ones also, some actually church goers..

once, picked up a chinese 'gangster' of some sort, or at least that's what he told me he does. but i had a really nice conversation with him (1hr journey) and i got a big tip from him at drop off. no problems there.

also picked up couple of indons from Semenyih to Kepong. first thing they ask when they boarded the car, "ini jam ada road-block ka?" later on found out they both without permits.

i guess, if really suey and so happened u have a problematic rider and was stopped by police, i don't think u should be worried since we're drivers. i can't ask them what they're carrying or inspect their bags. i think so long we're driving under uber/grab, we should be fine. unless we're doing offline trips, then its a risk.

i once dropped off a nigerian girl who was moving from puchong to rawang. a few hours and many rides after that only i realized she left a bag in my car on the passenger seat floor. i then put it in the trunk and then went thru a road-block. luckily police didn't stop me. i got worried about what i was carrying and thus inspected the bag. luckily also nothing illegal was in the bag.

*touchwood so far, after more than 1500 trips, nothing unfortunate ever happened to me.

If the passenger was carrying loads of drugs , im the drug guy, i will accused this bag was the driver bag. so this is quite a lengthy process in the end. or u may also an accomplice . quite dangerous when shipping the criminals.

roughly about how much u get it install. it looks like a lot of wiring . this cam price is it front and back together ? really cheap if there's 2 cameras provided.

Wiring part is the issue, just go any accessory shop..they usually charge RM30-50. They keep wiring inside so it will look neat n tidy.

I bought 128GB SD card and set recording only 720p so it can record longer.

I never heard taxi drivers before uber & grab exist got arrested driving a criminal. Come on dude, our police is not that stupid.

Damn kesian that guy. I guess he so scared after he found the gun later hide it in his house.

1) he was not arrested 'just' becos he was driving a criminal. he was arrested & charged & sentenced for possession of firearms and ammo in his condominium

2) the taxi driver knew both the other suspects. they met a couple of times before the murder took place.

3) he was finally cleared of both murder & firearm possession charge after an appeal

there's no need to be rude. reading more news than others don't make u smarter.

back to the original question, what would u have all drivers do? run a background check on riders? check their bags? pat them down for concealed prohibited items?

cctv camera still the best bet for recording passenger at the back of the car. you need to put a signage. " This car is equipped with Cameras" . Prevention is better than cure.
