u never heard what xiaomi done to their phone lately?

Hi all,

Planning to get a new phone for wifey. Can give any advice on which is better the note 5 or 5 plus?.

Currently lazada only have note 5 for 64gb only.

Any advice appreciated.

No issues(portrait mode, rear camera; standard also same).

hahaha I updated to MIUI 10 & can get the full 12MP resolution for rear cam. In MIUI 9, it was REALLY the smaller 5MP cam that was taking the portrait 

Coming from dslr photography, we use zoom lens to get silky smooth bokeh and also for composition .... forgot that smartphones dun work the same... zoom means digital zoom LOL image quality poor - so guess they disabled it in portrait mode. For composition, use leg power zoom hahaha. Also if wanna use the portrait mode for bokeh effect in other aspect ratios, shoot in 4:3 & then crop manually. OR use the front cam (portrait mode can shoot in widescreen frame, using a fraction of the sensor)

btw RioMeni before you update to MIUI 10, go checkout the front camera screen - the portrait mode is activated via a "person icon" from the flash setting area (the blue icon in pic below). After u update to MIUI 10, it will show up as and activate by "Portrait"  just like for the rear camera.

RN6pro front got 2 camera instead of 1 in RN5

rear, the sensor on RN6pro much better althouse both have same 2 camera.

Btw, i just tried Google Camera with night sight mode on miui 10 oreo. The apps crashes frequently, but when it works, images are brighter and looks good eventhough it took nearly 5 seconds to snap one. Handheld.

I found my RN5 fast charge become very slow charge recently. Anyone face the same issue?

After update, my camera is super duper laggy. Close to unusable

Open camera takes a few seconds

Take photo takes a few seconds.

This is the problem with cheap phones.. haih..

No money to jump..

Posted this in RN4 thread but didnt get much reply, hope can get help from here:

My Malaysian set RN4x is unable to switch on or boot, only red light keeps blinking during charging.  Google and it seems like a common problem but different way of rectifications. So far tried a few but not working.

After trying the different self diagnosis suggested by google, my 18months old RN4 still cannot be charged or boot. Brought to Xiaomi Authorised service center to diagnose and was told problem with mainboard, so not worth repairing n paid rm25 for that. My 3year old RN3 still kicking strong.

The xiaomi authorized service center said my phone is gone and  data not retrievable. But when I brought to another shop, tested my battery ok but still can't charge and can't switched on, dismantled the battery n powered d phone directly by charger n phone can be switched on and booted, everything still intact felt relieved.
At least now allowed me to savage my data. Will backup all data b4 repairing the shorted mainboard, repairing cost btw rm150-rm250.
 
Useless  xiaomi service center charged me rm25 for a lousy job.

WTA:
1) Is it safe to continue using the shorted phone with direct power while backup the data and reset it to factory setting?
2) Is the repair cost of 150-250 which takes 2 hours too high?
3) Normally would repaired unit last >1 year?

Any opinion is welcome.
