Using Nillkin Frost casing. it's hard casing. i've dropped from 1m height and no issues at all.


I'm using Nillkin H+ Pro . even though not 100% full coverage. I self install it and no bubble or gaps. Sticks nicely.

X-ONE sells very good screen film protector. it's not tempered glass. The one that fits a Huawei P10 without any bubbles. Too bad they dont have it for RN5, last check was couple of months ago.

By the time those waiting for best deals, new phones come out lo. haha. My advise is to just get this great bang for buck phone right away!

To make a short comparison,

Redmi Note 5 AI has better camera specs than Redmi Note 5 Pro ( India ) otherwise, its practically the same. One made in China/Indonesia and another made in India.

I dont think you can purchase from China mi website unless you have an address in china or a forwarder service. Just buy from local importers or Official Mi Malaysia.

I can tell you guys. umobile not so good leh. Macam ada period lol. I'm using umobile also.

Flash via FASTBOOT. but you'll still need Mi Flashing tool. better read up the guide. I'm using the same 6GB version. i find flashing via TRWP easier than flashing via fastboot though. I just download any ROM i like into USB OTG, get into TRWP, just wipe and flash.Done.


For those having slow camera launch, just want to know a few things, your SAVE PHOTOS TO = internal memory? or SD card ? Try switching to internal memory and see if there's any difference?

Fyi, I save my photos to SD card and i'm using a Class 10 MicroSDXC UHS-I U3 SD Card and I have no issues on camera launch speed. Could it be possibly that you're using slower SD card, your setting is Save to SD card & camera app scans the previous photo taken thus the lag?

The ROM works for both India and China variant.

Slightly higher battery consumption though i've never really kept track. Pretty sure was due to some in-built features inside like Xiao AI.

Runs well on Ark survival evolved mobile. With 6gb+64 variant.

I switched from umobile to celcom Xpax50. GPS locking issue instantly solved.

On umobile, my network reception frequent changes from 4G to H+ if i move from area to another area. hence my GPS locking tends to be lost. Sometimes i dont even get the locking back.

When i changed to celcom xpax50, GPS locking was instant and no locking lost even if did change from 4G to H+.

The best one i can recommend is XONE if you're pick about the bubble effect on edges. It's a film rather than glass. Pricier than brands nillkin.

So far i've no issues using it. No camera lag or anything. Previously we've discussed about it in the thread. There is a probability that user's save it to a slow sd card.

I find the 6GB ram version to be very good. Nowadays apps starts to use more memory.

I bought a 6GB+64GB RN 5 AI from AliExpress and i can use LTE without any issues. For me, except for the warranty and ROM (MY set Global ROM / AP Set China/Global ROM), it has no differences in terms of specifications.

Currently for Xiaomi phones, you can use Mi PC Suite to backup your phone data.

Whatsapp - Google Drive ( Mine set to run daily at 3am using WIFI only )

Contacts/SMS/Notes/Recorder/Music/Calendar/WLAN synced to Mi Cloud ( Since only 5GB is provided for free )

Rest of the data is backed up to PC using Mi PC Suite.

Hmm, havent tried rooting on RN5 AI before, i did it on the RN 3 before. Rooting will cause some apps unable to function or launch such as Banking apps ( Public Bank and HSBC ). Not sure about now on RN5 as i've moved on to Mi Mix 3.
