scan virus in safe mode is better cause safe mode just start the minimum required program, and virus may not start yet.

ya, safe mode scan virus will be better
especially against the virus can be spread
scan in safe mode will make the virus inactive, and kill them all in a shot
if you scan in normal mode, then the virus still will spread eventhough you have scan the file
you wont get rid of the virus forever

thats why when you have virus and visit those AV software site
they will always ask you to scan in safe mode

scan each time per day??
your pc is in high risk for getting virus??

ya, use quite alot of memory to run
i try it in my old pc last times
that pc aledi infected by virus
and the NOD32 always prompt for virus until the computer hang... sad.gif

but i dun think we should discuss about NOD32 in here
try discuss that AV in the proper thread

and i also forgot something
if we scan in normal mode and if your pc have spyware
the spyware can hide the virus and make your AV software cant detect it...

A point to take note:-
Don't do online scans in safe mode! Besides, it's dangerous to connect to the internet in safe mode, it's like working without any safety net.

Hi,
To fully scan all files, use the NOD32 dos scanner and startup using an NTFS boot CD. Anyway if you get error number 4, file is locked.
That is normal as all AVs will bump into the same thing, whether they report it to you is another thing. If the file is locked by windows as it is being used, Antivirus cannot scan the file.

Actually, i don't see a difference in scanning your computer in safe mode or in normal mode. I think you are looking for the phrase "removal of virus is better in safe mode?". This is indeed true because removal of malicious files in safe mode is more effective due to many files not being executed during startup time. Hence, you could remove those malicious files without the error message stating that the file is being used. If you are talking about your anti-virus ability to remove malicious files, the success rate increases too when you are in safe mode.

Chief Mystical Zero,
You are right, the phrase of scanning and cleaning is key. If scanning, the safe mode or normal mode don't make huge difference. Usually when cleaning, safe mode is suggested.

IMHO, best way to scan PC

1) Scan in Safe Mode
2) Turn off System Restore

Scan regularly.. maybe once a week.. or once a month.. but for me.. once when needed tongue.gif

Wrong as well, one should not ever try to turn off System Restore whilst doing a scan, it acts as a safety wall tho it might be infected.
Anyhow, you can just purge it and create a new restore point when you're clean.

haha, this time you are wrong
it is really better if we scan the whole system in safe mode after disable the system restore
becoz it is afraid that the virus hide inside the system restore
once the system restore been disable and after we scan it, then only your pc is "clean" from virus

and it can avoid the virus been restore back to your pc

thats what Norton Anti Virus website teach us wink.gif

Turning off system restore is good for virus scanning. who knows a virus is restored?
but if u turn off and a windows file is deleted, your whole OS bye bye liao.
but most antivirus company recommend u scan pc with system restore off.
