Food for thought, will employer's EPF contribution be a deciding factor for you too? when accepting a job, a new job, etc.

For example, if you work in a bank, you're likely gonna get 16% epf contribution by your bank as opposed to working in a small company where they just pay the statutory 12% epf contribution to your account.

Is this benefits important to you?

QUOTE(joshgm_119 @ Feb 14 2019, 01:04 PM)
Interesting, but very subjective to individuals situations when job hunting.

In a situation where I am browsing for the next jump, my expected salary would take into account the difference in the monthly contribution if the new company is not matching the rate that I am currently receiving.

Whereas if it was a situation where I needed a job badly, it would not matter all that much anymore.

Cheers!
*
yeah, i guess my case is clear. haha... thanks!

QUOTE(HAoCHa @ Feb 14 2019, 01:19 PM)
Not for me, won't make much different anyway. Higher salary amount is better, cause it's important factor for next salary rise.
*
i think it would be an important factor too, why do you say the difference is not much, i think it's pretty much differ by a couple of hundred each month for me (sole from the difference alone), so i think it is important to compound with the 8th wonder of the world. you will see a hugggeeee difference when you retire...

QUOTE(jitshiong @ Feb 14 2019, 02:02 PM)
Yes, I would consider this when there are similar offer. This is definitely a plus factor when comparing job offers. Cumulative interest gained for the additional 5% in the EPF will make a difference in the long run.
*
yes, definitely, agree with you mate.

QUOTE(ayamxxx @ Feb 14 2019, 02:40 PM)
Important if you gonna stay long there. But if the other offers is too big, then I suggest take that offer.
*
yup, for me the case is pretty clear, moving into 16% with a higher bump in my basic salary. so a win-win for me.
but losing is the hours...

QUOTE(blitzbullet @ Feb 14 2019, 03:09 PM)
Very important for me as I plan to be financially free by the time I retire. Usually I'll limit the total contribution to 25%. I'll adjust my own % contribution to meet the target. It totally depends on your target.
*
Yes, noted with thanks! very important to me too. try to get as much as we can when we're young and let the 8th wonder of the world to do its job.

Typically the first to reveal the number losses.

Also, in my experience, normally employers have the upper hand over candidates.

If you refuse to cooperate, they will just skip you and go to the next candidate, unless you are the one that they truly want to hire or at least the hiring manager wants to hire.

Most people leave after 2-3 years actually; for me, got promoted then moved on to greener (read: more reasonable lifestyle) pastures.
Money can actually be better elsewhere; I got a pay bump when I left for another company. Was a great experience but never planned to stay in consulting forever.
*
alright got your point there and certainly sure that it would be a good move for you.

QUOTE(masterelr @ Nov 1 2020, 02:18 AM)
When including my salary in my CV, do I include the word "(Negotiable)" beside the salary or is it like an unspoken rule where all expected salaries are negotiable unless stated?
*
Typically, when you say negotiable, it means that they will be able to nego your salary downward, only one way and typically not the other way. never put negotiable, they would ask you if your salary is negotiable instead.

other forumers have stated their valid points which i agree very much too. Just to add another one, an example below.

1. let's say if you put your expected salary RM8k (negotiable).
2. and let's say you went for the interview and find that you can fit into the role (based on your cv and experience and your interview performance).
3. However, their range of salary is from RM10k to RM15k for that position.
4. they'd more than happy to offer you the RM8k you ask for without having to go through the negotiation process.

So in this case, you're the one who actually lose out because you could potentially land the job with much higher than RM8k salary.
yes i also noted that typically the employer will also make reference to your last drawn salary (which i think is not a very applicable context in our country), i dont think this should happen.

so your call if you wanna leave your expected salary in your CV.

For those that started their career earning in the 2k - 2.5k range, how long did it take for you to reach 10k salary milestone?
*
7 years for me.
2 rounds of promotion with 1 time in a chinaman co, so the increment wasn't that great.
couple with multiple jumps to get there.
