At your age, this pay is super high. How did you manage to get to 12k with 4 increment cycles (assuming one increment cycle per year)? do you mind sharing?

QUOTE(Wenxuan2 @ Jun 29 2018, 10:59 PM)
That working hours is pretty insane ohmy.gif and your pay is relatively high, mind sharing your story and your degree?
*
In general I got lucky with good bosses. I had IT related degree.
Working hours are really depending on the project loads. Sometimes peak season too many concurrent projects ongoing then need to stay late a bit. I avoid working on weekends since it's the only resting day.

I guess in the end, those extra hours paid off.

QUOTE(myroy @ Jun 30 2018, 09:34 AM)
currently u 26 or 30?

26 this year

Any vacancy available at your current company ?
*
Not that I'm aware of for now tongue.gif

QUOTE(spoonudus @ Jul 1 2018, 03:53 PM)
That 12k is because of overtime? Quite high for 4 years experience. But ive seen similar case, and yeah work hour almost double the normal work hour, 75-80, so that salary kinda justify the workload, scale down to normal hour, tll be around 6-7k, which is still high for 4 years exp.
*
Our company doesn't have overtime payment policies, so the 12k is the basic only. But I guess they factored the 'work hour' in haha

no if one day there's no new projects coming in, then you might be the first to let go?

hard to justify still, 4 years experience with 12k. nonetheless, very good for you  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

Worrying but could be kinda real too. Of course hopefully that won't be the case..

Do you mind sharing your company's info?
I have complete my diploma, degree and recently ACCA. Would like to know best way to kick start my career
*
I'm IT graduate so might be very different path with yours. Not very familiar with financial career path.

QUOTE(Spawny @ Jul 5 2018, 11:59 AM)
Wow this is nearly unheard of, 4 years in the same company you can get 12k basic salary, even people joining a new company will not get that much. How many promotion did you received? And what was your first salary drawn when you join the company? Just curious
*
My first drawn salary was around 4k. About 4 promotions but MNC does it differently I guess. Promotion Vs merit goes separately and sometimes can come together.

If you can find your next job with 30% increment why not?
*
hmm.gif Good point. But gonna be hard unless I find jobs outside of Malaysia

QUOTE(aBcD-| @ Mar 12 2020, 10:50 AM)
can i safely assume that you getting increment 3k per year for 4 years to reach this level of monetary payout?
*
Mostly about 1k - 2k depending on year. There was some years which I was lucky to get multiple increments (merit increments, promotions, or special increment) so these stacked up quite rapidly. But things have pretty much normalised now

Quick update with MCO and economic situations and all, I've decided to stay longer in my company and up skill myself on leadership / management so that I can push myself to take up higher management roles / bigger portfolio, rather than venturing out at this crisis period.. Grateful enough to keep the job already... sweat.gif

Seriously looks like IT is paying so VERY much better than Engineers when engineering is one of the toughest course.

I think generally speaking mine is quite a unique situation as the Company itself (regardless of domain) is known for paying above average wages. sweat.gif

QUOTE(flying_manatee @ Oct 18 2020, 12:01 AM)
Yea I think you made the right choice in this situation, I'm in a pretty similar position to yours, and made the same choice as well (despite getting a bit bored).

thumbup.gif all the best to you! Let's find joy / opportunities to learn new things within our scope of work tongue.gif

Hi sifu's,

I require advice in terms of salary payout difference to see which is worth ... Which obviously I know which would you recommend.

Cause I've been only experienced in doing HP products.
Suddenly, due to shaky position, which Company A announced retrenchment due to project loss. I found myself landed in a whole new different brand which require whole different skill sets.

Now:

Let's just say :

Personally I'd say Company B - simply because
1) opportunity to learn new thing
2) contract based role usually should come with higher compensation (~25%) to compensate for job security

An update a year later.

Taking a latest snapshot as I started hunting for new job in Singapore.. tried finding purpose in my job for the past one year but it's really feeling lifeless now.

Did look around in Malaysia and seems like the only way to match the salary is to take on higher responsibilities, interested but would rather get out of Malaysia while I still can afford to.
