I believe with financial institutions, and possibly GLC and major conglomerates, where everything is structured and HR reigns supreme, it is impossible to choose to not disclose your salary. They will just move on to the next candidate. They also tend to have rules like max 30% increment. Yes, they can have exceptions, but exceptions are rare...less than 5% of new hires will come from the exception list.

To me, just don’t worry about the salary. Ask what you really want. Or 10% premium to that. Then go to the interview, excel and wait for their offer. If they lowball, reject outright respectfully. They will either say kthnxbai or come back with an improved offer. Key is...you need to have options. Do not be or appear desperate. And the most powerful negotiation tool you will ever have is the willingness to walk away. This is why it is important to continue interviewing periodically (say once a year) eve though you are happy in your current job. Cause then your negotiating hand is super powerful and this will show through during the interview as well.
*
Would love to try this next year. Twice already I started interviewing when I was desperate to leave my current company. Seeing many people with only 2-3 years experience already earning 5k, really is quite frustrating for me. shakehead.gif laugh.gif

Just wondering whats the career prospect for a PA to CEO?

Forever become PA?
*
You get good networking by being with the CEO all the time. Also can know how management people think, work, behave etc so you could learn from them. But to straight away from PA into let say manager of any company is quite hard. Maybe can start own company with all the networking and knowledge gained to your advantage. Or you can just stay being his/her PA with that kind of salary is quite good what. biggrin.gif

for bigger company, say "the electricity supply company in malaysia", Special Officer is SM or GM level. because you need to give instruction to the SM or GM level. in my case, im just an AM level.
*
Ouh, saw they say PA, normally PA doesn't take much responsibilities and your position seems to have much more decision making and etc.

i am at sg at the moment. i really hated the job/environment in singapore. the only factor that is pulling me back to stay on in this singky island is the sgd.. i calculated myself, the amount i am saving per month whilst working in singapore, is waay waay more than in malaysia.

soemtimes i relly hope, rm is stronger, like 1:2 ?? then, at least i have more solid reason to move back
*
Mind sharing what is the environment like working at Singapore? BTW, what's the industry and designation you are currently at?

I think you're not doing too badly bro if your aim is 10k at 30, I'm in IT too, when I was your age I was earning about the same as you, now I'm 32 and getting 15+ k a month. It's not much compared to some high earners but I think ok for your goals.
*
Any tips on getting those kind of numbers? What exactly you do? Are you on the management side or senior/expert of a certain field in IT?

How many years did you stay before jump that got 50%+ ? I'm at my third company but both time I jump, I was rushing into getting a new job so that I don't really go to many interview before deciding. Hope for the next jump I could plan it well so I got more option and better pay hike. laugh.gif

I don't think that's the case for sales related job. As long as they know their products well and can sell, sure can get a lot of money.

I just started working after doing free lance esports and events jobs last year.

Btw about the bonus, it is confirmed by all my colleagues that they haven't got increment or bonus from last Jan till now. I plan to work here for 1 year and see if it will be different next year. If still no increment or bonus, I'm thinking about leaving... Is it normal for consultant companies to not have yearly increment?
*
Well, I think it is normal for any type of companies to not have a yearly increment as it will largely depends on the company performance.
I've been in 2 companies previously, and both have had a year of no increment(1 left the next year on both occasion).

QUOTE(GentlemanTroll @ Jul 11 2019, 01:04 PM)
I think most of the time is to meet expectations on both side.
Are you okay with HR fully ignoring your previous salary?
So, if say you were earning RM10k, would you accept a RM10.1k for a similar position as your current position, even though that's what you deserve/market rate?
On the other hand, for HR, if they're hiring someone with 5k salary, they will probably be happy with a 20-30% increment, why pay 100% increment?
I think that's why they still have that mindset.
Also, I do think it's difficult to tell a worth by just looking at resume and interview results. It's a lot easier to work with, with a benchmark. The benchmark can either be a market surveyed rate, or that person's past salary.
*
Every company has allocated a certain amount of budget for each vacancies they post. Why not use their budget and also the candidate's expected salary to start negotiate/offer?
So, let say a person has been underpaid for years, so for their next jump, they should accept 20-30% increment although it is still way below market rate?

QUOTE(hyperbelt7 @ Jul 11 2019, 03:58 PM)
I'll rather they ask about past salary as a benchmark for next salary, otherwise what do you suggest?  I've no idea how it works at other countries though.
*
Use their allocated budget as benchmark. If the candidate's expected salary is way higher than that, skip or try to negotiate if they really want to hire that person.

Man I admire you. Seriously with SPM + professional certificate can earn that much. But for you I dont know what holding you for earn more than 5 figure. Most of the people in here (base on their post) who have more than 5 figure are degree holder with experience.  Or maybe their get luck with company who see their potential to give them what they deserve. I think you deserve more than what you earn right now. Maybe try survey other company who  you can nego with what you salary you desire. Who know maybe you can earn 5 figure or more.
*
For me personally, the person programming skills and professional cert are more important than degree cert.
Having a degree cert doesn't guarantee the candidate can perform well.
But I notice the standard JD when searching for job is looking for someone who has Degree, so not sure is it really compulsory and they do check on it or just putting it there as it is the standard here in Malaysia.

I'm fine if company want to hire specific gender /other preference they might have (such as marital status, age group etc.) for some position ...

BUT please don't even call for interview if they don't even fit your "preference" ...
*
QUOTE(DoomCognition @ Sep 24 2019, 01:00 PM)
Depends on the role. Some roles generally has benefits of having one gender over another, and I will not hold it against them it is not politically correct, but it is the real job market. Discrimination is fine, but not undue discrimination.

Example, a repitative office job are generally more suited to young mothers who wants to go back on time. Younger people are generally more flexible than older people, thus for projects based jobs, better to have younger people. Corporate dealings would better have slightly older crowd, to inspire confidence in potential clients. Guys are more suited for roles which requires site visits I to jungles or construction sites. I have no problems with having such preferences at all, cause it helps with getting the job done. But just having discriminatation that does not confer benefits are wrong.
*
Exactly. No issue with this preference/strategy/policy made by the company but wasting someone's time to go to the interview and then rejecting by giving this reason is totally not acceptable.

Lack of information for others to give their thought on this.
Work experience, job scope, designation etc.

Assuming based on your age, maybe abit underpaid
