Not sure if this is the right place to ask.
Do recruitment agency or headhunter try to lowball your salary? I put my expected salary as `X` on jobstreet. Then this recruitment agency called and offered me a job which pays X amount. I then Google and use jobstreet to search for that post and it pays `above my expected salary`

QUOTE(adibyusoff @ Jul 10 2018, 08:03 PM) if you put X and they give you X, they are giving you what you want. that's a good sign. If you put X and they give you X-Y only then it can be called as a lowball. Lets just say that my expected salary on Jobstreet is RM6k, and then this company is offering RM8k, since the recruitment agency says that the company only offers Rm6k to me, does that mean this recruitment agency gets to pocket RM2k per month from this company? Is that how it works?

QUOTE(ju146 @ Jul 13 2018, 09:05 AM) No, it doesn't work out that way, the 2K not going anyone pocket The reason recruiter low ball your pay is so that it is easier to convince the employer to take you Let say the recruiter bonus is 1 month against the candidate salary, as a recruiter will you choose to 1. Low risk of dispute and secure the 6k commission 2. Insist with 8k commission and you probably get nothing eventually The best hiring is always deal with the hiring manager directly. Ok I get it now. Of course recruiter would choose 1, they would rather secure that 6k commision (higher chance to get), than to get 8k from client and get nothing anyway if the employer isn't willing to pay RM8k to hire me. So in this case recruiter would just settle with Rm6k as it is more guaranteed to get compared to RM8k which client might not hire me
