May I know I am underpaid or still doing well for age 26 years old? The reason why I accept the upcoming job is because I really need to move my salary to 4.3k above in order to commit house loan and also getting prepared to get married this july.

Also need some insight what is actually Associate level? Is it executive or Assistant Manager level? Since based on the JD I need to manage quite a lot. Altho I asked during the interview but it is not clear enough.

Thank you.

Seems a bit underpaid imho. On age 24 with 1 year exp I already got 4.8k inc allowance. But doing java backend, bit different. You should be able to get above 5k with 3 years of exp I suppose. But that also depends on your skillset and how you sell yourself to the interviewer
*
I think it's hard for me to go that amount salary because of GLCs because I think I do have unnecessary skillset thanks to freelance ie. Nodejs, aws, native/hybrid apps. Hmm but so sad lah, i think im gonna jump again next year... but will go to private sector. But what do you think about associate level?

Edit: thank u for your response sir

if u ask me, under. but hey, everyone progress at different pace. ask yourself if u are doing well, learning well and earning enough?

if answer yes to all, i think it's good. can be better, but move on your comfortable pace. btw, contract 2 years? if u plan to jump after 1 year u may need to pay back?

associate to me is small potato position. example, senior manager > manager > associate manager. senior pm > pm > associate pm.

but maybe im wrong, varies on the company
change of department? explore other department of the company ? or even change of environment/company/country may do the trick.

if u are not learning at your position, u could stay stagnant and slowly u dont want to move on.  (comfort zone)

Hi, thank you for your response. Actually no I do not need to pay, I just need to resign properly if I decided to jump after a year. Some of the GLCs has been practice like this. Anyhow I've asked again the HR through phone call and she said it is a senior executive position where I can be promoted anytime soon to be Manager/Assist Manager since already got an experience.

It just doesn't make sense a company put unlimited AL. They are killing themself. They can put higher than normal AL maybe 30 or 50 days.
*
QUOTE(rotogistics @ Sep 19 2021, 10:22 AM)
My company also provides the benefit of unlimited leave, although this is eventually subjected to approval of my supervisor (I've never been rejected, took 20 days worth of leave over the past year to date). I think it's because my company size is small, and it is a mutual understanding based on professionalism and trust in the employee that they will get their job done and not neglect their responsibilities.  smile.gif
*
Yes I think it is like rotogistics said, not all AL will be approved. I do scout around linkedin and asked few employees, they said it is unlimited but subject to approval based on your workload. The reason is there is an expat in Malaysia office and sometimes they will take 1-2 months leave to go back to their country or travel as long their major task or project is done for that year.

Hmm, seems interesting but I will never know until I work there and we'll see how from there.

QUOTE(000022 @ Dec 24 2021, 10:39 AM)
Oh wow, that consecutive jump. SE field seems super lucrative nowadays. What are some of your primary resp in the company? The new company was ok with your short tenure?
Hmm, so next progression would be stepping into the c-level?
*
I can say SE is lucrative if you equip the right skillset. Sometimes your future employer does not expect you to be super powerful in coding or who's the latest to use new stack, they expect at least you know how to deliver what they want. After countless of interview for the past 5 years, been into GLCs (Financial Institution), MNCs, and upcoming Oil & Gas, I must say you also need to have the soft skills to talk, negotiate, presentation skills, and personal effort like github repo, fun project etc. It does help a lot.

However luckily throughout my journey, I've landed a job where the colleague, supervisor are quite supportive on my career progress regardless of age, race, or background. When I told my current co. that I'm going to resign, my immediate boss contacted me and what I did is be honest (but please don't be too honest tell which co etc, just give honest answer with short explanation) with him. I had no grudge and love working here, however this new co. offer better packages, job scope and opportunity. Obviously I said to him the package does matter because I have family, the inflation issue recently etc so I need to game up my daily survival.

Guess what? He did tried to help to match my new package but unsucessful because to high in margin. However he is very supportive, and wish me luck, keep in touch yada yada yada.

QUOTE(RavagerX @ Dec 24 2021, 07:01 PM)
Hi, how did the conversation go when you tell your new direct manager you're jumping again just after 2 months? would like to know what to say in this situation.
And since you WFH, did you have to return any company gadgets to office all over again?
*
I sent my resignation letter to my boss first before HR to make sure both of us are on same page. And he did contacted me and what I did is just be honest (but not too honest) by saying I got a better package, job scope, and opportunity by doing project xxx. Obviously the package part is the main reason i told him because I need to put a food on the table with rise of price recently etc. He did totally understand and he did try to counter me but my new salary too high for them so have to let me go. However he said to keep in touch and if I want to join back they won't mind.

My advice: talk nicely, be firm on your decision.

Yes I need to go to office 31st December (1 week notice) to handover my equipment and they are also coming to do some mini lunch farewell.

OnG, nearby KLCC, contract post

aha.. company name start with P, end with S is it brows.gif

the company is very actively venturing into cloud transformation so yea your CICD knowledge does help alot
ps. since you are at it, do you mind to share other perk details such as ALs, next year plan on returning to office or still hybrid WFH, any other allowances for lifestyle such as gyms, telcos, etc
*
Nope it's not what you guess. It's the other 'giant'.

For benefit honestly I must say really sikit because this co. hired 3rd party payroll (outsource) for contract people, so the salary is high but benefits are as follows:
- gym/telco/ang allowance: no
- Al + MC: 14 days per year and it will reset again next year.
- Probation: 3 months and can't AL/MC unless unpaid.
- Medical outpatient is unlimited cover whole family and hospitalization 30k

Remember contract and permanent really big different in terms of benefits.

They are working WFO now, no more WFH. That's suck because my current co is forever WFH.

Honestly tho, I accepted this offer not because I like it, I just want to increase my base salary (family commitment also) and will find a place to settle down like fully wfh cause I love wfh.

So in my heart, my current co is the best co every I've work throughout 5 years my career journey. That's all i can say. very effective in distributing task, minimal politics, no bullshit meeting, proper documentation (business & technical; they have their own wikipedia for everything).

QUOTE(dattebayo @ Dec 26 2021, 02:20 AM)
i ran through rough calculations on your previous (current) pay which is 13 x 6500, translate to around 7k per month, that is haven't take the performance bonus into account?

your new offer EPF only pay 12% vs 16% of your current place

AL is AL, MC is MC, employment act governs that every employee MC must be at least 14 days per year, and treating MCs as unpaid leave even during probation is illegal [correct me if i'm wrong]

if i were you, i wouldn't take up the offer, because when look at the long term, the sunken cost and opportunity cost definitely is more (lack of AL and benefits , no bonus no increment thereof), most of it all, you are there ONLY for the money; the burden cost your new place has on you is not much different than your old place

sometimes, money is not everything, but that's just me, i don't know your stories wink.gif
*
Yep I got your point and also thanks for the leave input, i might want to check the law. There was no performance bonus on current co. Only fixed bonus

Well to make it short:
- I need money bcause my wife is going to resign from gov (long distance relay), altho she has money to sustain 3 months while applying for private but i also need to backup
- my first kid is going to childcare this january
- on marathon to settle CC debt around 13k left

So my strategy is i need upfront money to move my wife item to kl, childcare, backup for my wife financial etc and i need exact 7 month to fully settle all my cc debt (i kept my cc away from me, use only for emergency).
(i do have savings but try my best to avoid touching it)

So after doing this for 1 year, I'm planning to find a company that i will settle down for good even if they cant match my new salary (well not good for cv but if there's a skill hopefully there's a willing employer), because without the CC debt I could free 1k+- salary from cc repayment (i didnot pay min.)

All in all, that's life and sacrifice for my loved one :/
