Whats with youngster nowadays , starting salary all so dang high one?!?!

I know fresh graduates that earn RM 9,000 as an employee (did not inherit a business/ not well connected aka crony/ working at a company, just went into the right sector).

And when you say high, keep in mind your perspective and social circle. There's no limit to your earning potential, only how you can make yourself valuable to a company.

EDIT:

They are working locally in Malaysia and being paid in Ringgit, not converting from other currencies to MYR

MBBs 😁

Can concur that MBBs salaries are one of the best. Not sure what those in the IB line in Malaysia earn though.

Starting salary for MBBs anywhere from RM 6K - RM 8K from what I've heard

curious about MBBs. I'm myself an engineer and I know few friends of ex-engineers got into MBBs but they have to go to either Oxbridge/Ivy before got accepted into MBBs. Are they still choosy now?

I know a few people who are in McKinsey and BCG. Both are local graduates (one from a Private Uni and while the other is from a Public University. Connections definitely help but if you're a great talent, it doesn't matter (in practice). While I've also heard from MBBs alumni, that you can only get in if you're from the global top Unis. Contradictory but there can always be exceptions to the "rule".

EDIT: Scratch that. Both are Private Unis.

Yes they are very selective, but the best way to get called for an interview is to get a current or former MBB consultant to vouch/recommend you. Pay attention to their events and sign up for it, BCG Malaysia had an intro to consulting call in mid October, at least you're past the general filters once you get to these types of events.

The calls for interview I had with McKinsey and BCG were both via recommendations, Bain rejected my online application despite having the correct pedigree (top 10 Ivy, top 10 b-school)  biggrin.gif

Did you end up at the firm? wink.gif

Depends on your definition of standard.

IMO 3% to 4% is barely enough to cover inflation rate.

You should aim for 7% and more. 10% or more is considered very good.

If your salary starts at RM 3k, and assume every year you get 3% of increment. After 20 years (at age 44+) you work your salary will only be at RM 5.2k which is almost impossible to survive especially if you have family.

But if you get around 7% of increment yearly, with the same starting salary RM 3k after 20 years you will earn almost RM 11k which is quite okay for white collars worker.

Conclusion, start to find company that can provide you better salary and improve your skills as well.

😯

Have seen a handful of friends who easily gotten 20%+ raises, early in their careers. From RM 4K, in fiscal years now already RM 6,250 (Mgmt Consulting). One started at RM 3.5K, in three fiscal years now up to RM 6K plus (IT), too.

Maybe it's an industry thing. Always never settle for the average, beat it at all cost. Gong Xi Fa Cai to all celebrating!

Remember that at the end of the day, money is merely a tool. It shouldn't control your life, you should control it.

eh, nolah, at 22 i think, after my diploma, doing a degree while working and currently doing my MBA while working as well.
I started with SharePoint from 2011, then move to O365 & Azure until now. So, about 8 years doing MS platform especially in SharePoint.
Actually the last adjustment was June last year, i put the old one on Jan, so, it already 1 year for my increment. The basic just add RM500, only the allowance, they introduce new allowance, so i enjoyed it as well.

Congratulations man! Great success story of juggling working whilst studying. Would you be able to share where you pursued your undergraduate degree and your MBA?

Thanks a bunch!

Can't seems to find my previous post, but here's my little update. Had just change job recently. Previously work in the marketing field as junior marketing exec and the basic was RM3,850. Took a little jump and career change into partnership role.

Just joined this company on 1st August. The management created a new position for me because they want to take me in. It's only 2 days working in this company and I felt this company is fast-paced which is OK for me cause I get used to it. Previous company slowly changing become Chinaman and when competitor offer me a role.. So why not? When I tender my resignation that time, my previous company did counter-offer me. But I stick with my decision as I need to move out from my comfort zone and took a career change  smile.gif Felt like the new management has high expectation on me for deliver, but I am confident!! bruce.gif  Hope I will perform well in this job!

But what makes me really took a jump and career change in this new company is that, they wanted to take me in and offering me a different role that suits me. Perhaps I am an extrovert and love talking to people, hence they offer me partnership role. Location wise is 20KM from my house, which is nearer. Previously was 40++KM one way which I spent daily 2 hours on road.

Congrats man! We all need to push ourselves beyond our comfort zone(s), only way to progress.

Wishing you the best with the new role and shoes to fill.
