just watched it last night ..

different storyline, i guess sony want to make a venom world without spidey.. sigh ..

action is ok
acting is so-so
symbiote venom choose eddie brock? wtf?

but still fun to watch la ..the venom alone is awesome
much better than the previous spidey3 version

fight scene between 2 symbiote is laughable ..remind me of T-1000

not sure, why sony make this kind of movie? cash grab?
i dont know .. but that just me tho

my rating : 2 /5

Yeah, Venom didn't even have the spider emblem or spider man abilities like the webslinging or wall crawling. It was more like his clawing on walls and jumping on top of buildings.

Cletus cameo feels more like it's gonna get 'Sinister 6'ed if Sony's Venom universe doesn't work out.

Okay, spoiler alert
Malaysia has a part in Venom.... Literally
Don't think they really filmed here thou, but the Malay language in the movie was quite good, and the car plates and all that. Dunno who was the guy behind the crew who made the magic into this movie. I'm impressed

But the Chinatown scene is not quite right
Anyway, they movie is bad, but not catwoman/daredevil ish awful as people claimed.

The interaction between Eddie Brock and Venom still enjoyable

I expected the ship was gonna crash in rural china or something since Tencent studio was involved. Surprised it was in Sarawak, they probably went with Chinatown since they don't have Malay cast.

Venom (2018)

I am at a disadvantage...

I ready the comic where Venom was introduced to the Marvel universe and this is NOT it...

Okay, Sony had licensed back Spider-man movie license to Marvel/Disney, I get that.

After Andrew Garfield's drop out with the Head Hocho's of Sony, alot of the Venom/Sinister Six movie project got shelf, I get that.

I still have to say, I don't buy the origins as portrayed by this movie.

It is so... clunky.

Tom Hardy is a hard actor to evaluate.

Why?

He is a true chameleon?

I had to be reminded he is also in the DC universe, namely, Bane in The Dark Knight.

So what I am trying to say id that he truly sells his roles,, that you forget he is Tom Hardy

Which to me, makes Eddie Brock / Venom a hard sell.

He is very flawed and therefore, not necessarily like-able...

Malaysia is "mentioned/showed" in this movie and is.... not recognizable...

So, what am I saying, this movie was put together with good intention and with a good cast, and have to add, I did not like the story and because Tom Hardy did a good job tithe Eddie Brock, I did not like the mavie...

Am I making sense?? tongue.gif

My Two Sen

P.S. if you are a detail oriented then are two mini feature at the end credits.

It's not good, first arc is very draggy, almost all plot at that point are laughable, which I've serious doubt on the intelligent of the screenwriter

action scenes are also so so, very forgettable, and again with Hollywood, they just love making night action scenes, where they can hide most of the flaws

Eddie's relation with his ex, and Venom are laughable as well

well, at least it's better than the more ridiculous The Predator

some say it's F4 & cat woman level of bad? no lar, it's bad but still better than those 2 tongue.gif

If you're expecting to see a bad ass Venom, you'll be very disappointed, what you'll get it's a "loser" Venom

stay back for 2 post credit scenes, first one is shortly after the initial credit, which open a possibility for sequel's villain, and 2nd post credit scenes you'll have to wait longer, and the credit rolls are damn slow! but IMO if you've the time & patient, it's well worth it, IMO that's the best scenes among the whole movie tongue.gif hint: it's nothing to do with Venom, but more with upcoming Spiderman animation movie, which makes me wanna watch it

abit dissapointed with this movie. it was average for me, 3/5.
and tom hardy is not suitable with all that jokes. wrong choice of actor.
also why make riot travel all the way from sibu to US. that's ridiculous...some more use makcik... laugh.gif

It was OK. Though I notice a bunch of people going "Who's DAT" when they show the mid post credits, lol. I hope Sony is commited to making a sequel to this because putting such tease at the end only cheapens the movie when you're not going to follow through with that promise.

Extremely enjoyable movie, in a so bad that it's good way

1 and half too short

1st 30 minutes too boring and extremely choppy

After that the whole thing got extremely entertaining. Tom Hardy is having the time of his life

I initially wanted to give this movie a pass because of the bad review.

After watching it I can conclude that it is a good movie, they're not comparing apple to apple when they put this film on par with Marvel quality work.

It is a good movie on its own, granted there can be more gore. Not sure why they went with PG-13. But the humour and pacing was ok IMO.

It was thoroughly enjoyable.

I disliked it. Maybe the spidey version has influenced me, i found this symbiote talks too much and I don't really need the "funny" side of it. And the casting of the movie is bad, all of them are nobodies and none of them are memorable, including the character of Annie or the boss Chalton Drake. The shot they said was malaysia was the worst, from the location or the talking, it has nothing Malaysian in it.

I too think that it's watchable, but far, far from the best. The villain was the rather typical "worshiper" type. He looked like he was going to have an orgasm when he first saw Venom, lol. Female lead was quite forgettable too. Dsiliked Venom being a funny loser type. Wish they had leaned into the body horror aspect more...

Symbiote v symbiote combat was also surprisingly uninspired. Haiz.

'Venom's CinemaScore From Audiences Revealed
By NICOLE DRUM - October 6, 2018

Sony's Venom hit theaters this weekend, and while critics have panned the Tom Hardy-starrer it seems like fans have been far kinder. CinemaScore has revealed its audience score and it's a positive one.

CinemaScore, the company that measures audience reactions to films, has awarded Venom with a solid B+ score. It's a score that is very much in line with the film's Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score, which as of this article is sitting at 89 percent.

Of course, both the CinemaScore and Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score are strikingly higher than the film's critical rating -- it's currently sitting at 31 percent rotten over on Rotten Tomatoes -- so what gives? There are any number of factors that could explain the disparity between audience and critical reactions, but it appears to be another example of just how large a difference there can be between how critics and casual audiences see films. A similar situation happened earlier this year with the horror film Hereditary.

In Hereditary situation, critics praised the film with it receiving an 89 percent fresh rating (as of the time of this article) but received a dismal D+ from audiences polled by CinemaScore. In the case of Venom, the situation is revered and it's something that could honestly be a plus for not just the film, but the future of the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters. The CinemaScore rating is often seen as something of a box-office bellwether with films that have positive ratings doing well at the box office while those with low CinemaScores often see a drop in their receipts following opening weekend.

If Venom continues to stay strong at the box office -- and the film has already shattered preview night records -- it could end up being financially successful enough to warrant a sequel and movies beyond that, which is something that director Ruben Fleischer spoke with ComicBook.com about ahead of Venom's release, particularly in regard to things that couldn't be included in this film, like specific character appearances.

"I think there's a pretty obvious one inherent to the Venom franchise that for whatever reason couldn't be included in the film," Fleischer said. "But I will say that I look forward to future movies where said character could perhaps run across Venom. Nothing would be more exciting than a face-off with Spider-Man."
