Some other countries like UK, they are paid weekly. In a year there are 52 weeks. So if you divide 52 by 4 you get 13 months. In HK, salary is paid monthly and some company will pay you 13th month and its stated in the contract.
Let's say we count all weekdays in each month, ignoring public holidays for 2018Jan 23 days
Feb 20 days
Mar 22
Apr 21
May 23
Jun 21
Jul 22
Aug 23
Sep 20
Oct 23
Nov 22
Dec 21
There are 261 working days
if divide by 12 months, we need work 21.75 days to get our monthly pay.
If they company pay 13 months then they have to work 20 days to get their monthly pay.
In other words, without stated 13th month salary, we are working extra 1.75 days each month, compared to those who have 13th month salary contract for it.
