this is installed at my shield,you can use aptoide to install all these, or if u hv the apk, need sideload it.
- playtv@unifi apps, version TM.APHONE.7.8.19 com.huawei.phone.tm
- rotate screen orientation apps, version1.0 ( to rotate the screen to landscape, not portait)
- sideload launcher apps, version1.05 ( to launch the play tv easier with the icon)

so far i can watch without much issue.

most of the time i using X-plore File Manager. to transfer big files between my NAS and shield.
nice UI.

long time didnt use astro apps. but i remember last time got issue with new latest version. so i didnt use it.

i think thats subjective.
mine still working ok both remote n controller. just that my controller broke already some plastic inside due to throw out by my daughter. but its still working.

i think due its design to always ON. when turn off ( it will go to sleep, not shutting down, unless u click the shutdown menu)
mine never shut it down, always on 24/7. only when going out for holidays more than few days, then only i will shut it down.

i think most box behave like this.

android phone as box ?
- did u know android phone runnning normal android instead of NS running with android tv ? and most of the app streaming now support android tv, hence better user experience since u need control with ur phone. even if u do mirroring function, the quality is not good.
- did u know some of the app streaming got DRM? which u wil get limited function or not even 4k/full HD viewing. not mentioned about those HDR, vision, atmos. some of this u wont get this on ur phone.
- did u know, nvidia provide full support of the android tv even better than phone ? shield 2015 still fully supported by the nvidia to the latest android version.
- did u know, why we rather speed more money on this device rather follow ur idea ? because we want the best 4K media box can offer, best sound/visual experience the box can offer, the best user experience that we can get.

if u didnt know, then by all means, please ur phone as ur box, but dont call us stupid because it look like u make urself more stupid.

because of nvidia give good support for the android tv, i would say go for pro. it would last u years. before new model came out.

astro go is one of the bad apps. its only work mostly on phone. on android boxes, only certain is working and u might want to find some modded apks.
even that 1 also cant gurantee it will work.

i already ditch astro go due to bad support by the developers for android os tv. each update always messed up something.

unifi playtv on another hand, is diff apps since its natively support on android os tv. u can go to google store and download it.
except if ur acc still not migrated yet to new apps, then u need to sideload the old apps. and might hv issue also since thats app is build for phone only.

u talking about china mi box or global mi box ?
because both are diff and running diff OS.

global mi box is running android TV os. and should hv built in chromecast and its function 100% same as chromecast doogle. most of the certified android TV os should hv supported Chromecast like those nvidia shield etc
so ur comparison as automatic/manual transmission is invalid.

last time unifi playtv only hv 1 system. recently they develop new apps which able to support android TV os ( u can install natively from the google play store on ur nvidia shield, no need sideload)
for u to use this new apps. ur account must be migrated to use new apps. if not, u wont be able to login and it will ask u to login old unifi tv apps instead.

or if u acc already migrated, when u login to old apps, it will ask u to download/login on ur apps instead.

thats new apps is design to run on android tv os and its remote friendly since its a native apps. u should found on it u search unifi or playtv@unifi

i just bought this G7BTS bluetooth remote, to replace my shield 2017 remote as alternative. and now its became my primary remote due to easier to use with numberpad + keyboard + IR.

pair with bluetooth, set the IR( got 4 button for IR), then can use edy. i use IR to control my TV since my TV is very old, dont hv CEC.
