I think he is referring to the completely DIY self check-in luggage system which is available at a few airports, where there's no human at the counter, basically you print your own baggage tag, stick it to your luggage and put it on the conveyor yourself, and the machine will check if your luggage weight is under your purchase limit, if not, if will instruct you to go to human manned counter for further action.

For such case, I think the machine will still look at your total weight allocated under the same booking number. Anyway, if in doubt, just refer to the airasia staff nearby

You must seldom travel with AirAsia, most of their flights are point-to-point unless you specifically book their fly-thru connecting flight.

Ya, you klang valley folks are a lucky lot, people like me from other states, transit is often unavoidable as we don't get a lot of direct flights, especially to international destinations

For AA, they have fly-thru bookings for certain routes, ex: Penang-KL-Taipei under the same booking, but usually I still prefer to book it separately so that I can have more flexibility with the timing, and might also get a better deal as their promo for say Penang-KL and KL-Taipei may not happened at the same time

Is your flights booked under the same booking number (PNR)? If so, then it is a transit flight without the need to recheck-in your luggage

Usually full service airline like MAS will offer cheaper price if you book return flights in the same booking, but I don't think I've ever seen that with AirAsia

AFAIK still available, but given their reputation of frequent cancellation/rescheduling, I've switched to Firefly, which often times is cheaper than flying AA.
