well well well....when coolermaster started venturing into PSU, I did sort of suspected their product. As I know there are a lot of PSU brands that sell overrated PSU. At that time, I wasn't really convinced that CM is on par with brands like Enermax and Antec. Then this thing happened. People actually can proof that they are selling overrated PSU.

Despite saying that, their product is still better than chap ayam like i-cute and v-tec that sell 250W as 450W.

put it in lay men terms, a stable PSU providing stable current to your PC parts does not stress your components by having under or over voltage. it also prolongs hard disk lifespan if the current is stable. correct me if i m wrong.

for example? realli wan to know about this too.. and if it's not suitable in this thread, do create a new one...

kinda interested pulak.. laugh.gif

Added on May 4, 2007, 6:48 pmIMO after reading all the above posts, im kinda thinking that since PSU is used to power up all ur pc components, it's a very important to get from reliable manufacturer like for instance some mentioned enermax and so on. hence the question still remains to those who are under tight budget, still we are in malaysia, price alwayz comes in mind first after quality.

and what dell, acer they did is actually sensible to our malaysian market as well, as long as the psu is able to pump up enough (plus some buffer) current to the components they are bundling, i dont see there is anything different as comparable to what we (normal user) normally would. somemore if they use very good stuff and end up advertising a much expensive system to be owned, do you think users are going to buy from them?

obviously in our case, we dun know how much juice is suitable to our rig, but with enough research and survey on the internet, it wouldnt difficult to find out, isnt it? therefore the point is that coolermaster's extreme psu series is yet ok to others like some did mention: icute, powerlogic... as long as you know roughly how much juice ur rig required, then buy the one that has a higher power like 10-15% more so that it would cover in case there's peak load scenario. and this is what extreme psu series are meant for and definitely not for high end or OC'ers.. also need to take extra note for those who planned to stick on the same psu for more than 2-3 years: you have to up ur budget limit to get a decent quality psu from those who have often mentioned in this thread.

i myself have had used extreme 430W in my 'stock' P4 system before and now it's even powering my sister's rig and no problem(s) reported or shown in any of the components inside. as long as ur rig does not require demanding juice from ur psu (as the manufacturer advertised), coolermaster or enermax, they still did the same thing.

They are really not that bad. Just practicing the normal things that most PSU supplier does. It has been a known fact for YEARS that cheap PSU supplier sell overrated power supply. Those 450W being sold with cheap casing are actually only 250W. That goes for I-cute as well.

So, in order to rise above the norm, people come up with true power PSU that really is producing they power that they claim, eg. 450W is really 450W. So the term true power starts. Then as more and more player go into this sector, which proves to be highly successful (as consumers become more intelligent), they started using all sort of different name to call their true powers....like extreme or real or whatever.

Then there are also the not so true power PSU who are trying to sell their PSU at lower cost. So, they make their PSU to be a better than cheap PSU but lower than true powers. Like 450W is actually 350W. Hence, the reason why these PSU are cheaper than true powers like Antec and Enermax. Brands like coolermaster and powerlogic are good example of these midrange players.

The problem is, a lot of people assume coolermaster to be top range players not knowing that they actually are mid range player. Even coolermaster itself try to promote like it's a top range product.

But seriously, what you get is what you pay. If Enermax is selling at RM300, how can coolermaster sell at RM230 for same spec products?

Anyway, this exposure of coolermaster is only a wakeup call to everyone that such thing exist and never take things for granted.

best way is to go for brands that are well known like Antec and Enermax or Silverstone.

Even brand like acbel or enlight, I don't really trust. Also another way to look at it is to see the price of the item. If selling expensive then most probably it's true power. Of course don't turn off your brain with the price lah. When you see chap ABC 500W selling for RM350 then don't assume it must be true power.

I wondering others CM models also like that. Outside box label rating power is not the true with what is inside the PSU. PSU under power will create a lot problem, PC restarting, data corrupted, HDD spoilt etc.....better  open up next time before we buy  doh.gif

Since when did CM claims their Extreme series PSU are pure power? doh.gif
Its written on the box about its efficiency and peak power.Nobody says that's pure power.

wah!pawar logic with plastic tranparent casing ka?thats kind of psu can kebaboom u know..afraid to try pawar logic eventhough cheap. sweat.gif

On what grounds you have saying powerlogic psu's will blow?Dont simply assume.
Power logic psu's are redesigned from ColorSit psu but the difference is the branding.
