On the contrary. Smart watches are even more redundant than traditional watches as it merely replicates our phones that needs charging and lacks the emotional aspect of that mechanical watch thats been a constant companion for the last 20 years.
How to wear in public?

for active people like me, some activities like monitoring golf swing speed, heart rate, & constantly watching the running distance can't be used merely with a smartphone. if it can, it's too bulky and tedious compared to a smart watch.

it doesn't have to be an overpriced mechanical to have a watch that lasted 50 years and by the time it hits 20, the mechanical parts will starts to wear off and u need to constantly readjust the time back even if u're wearing it everyday.

As a specialized tool yes.

Perhaps its worthwhile for the demographic of folks who put upmost importance in monitoring their golf swing or obsessively track their steps etc.
