Which overseas country are u referring to? If is UK then I think u better get one in Malaysia. Cause u can bargain and get some free stuff. But in uk. They say one is one no discount or bargain.( May be depend on ur skill. I never get any cheaper.) So I'm suffering now.

We lack input. To name a few, where do you study and what laptop is in your mind. If apple mac is an option and you happen to study in the states or U.K then you might want to enjoy the student rebate. Needless to say the additional spec that you might get.

Warranty is not an issue as long as the manufacturer provide worldwide warranty such as Toshiba and of course Apple.

yes, get a laptop oversea if it's alienware. tongue.gif
anyway, the choice is up to you. but imho, if you are studying/working in oversea for quite a long time, buying at the country where you are studying and working should be ok! no need to worry about getting international warranty.

Laptops and other electrical stuffs in the UK and even in Australia are generally much more expensive than in Malaysia due to their GST and other taxes. I reckon you better get one in Malaysia and make sure you get yourself some international warranty.

if u can;t get much feedback in Ireland then it is better to just get a unit here ...i am thinking that it is better for you to make up ur mind on which laptop or at least the brand u wan ..to futher narrow your choices first ...

major brand like dell, toshiba and ibm/lenovo will do.

my best bet will be dell because they practice no distributorship world wide. your service still back 2 back to dell direct.

For crying out loud, Dell has an assembly plant there, just like Malaysia.

I'd advise TS to check out the common price of laptops in Ireland. I'd assume TS is headed for Dublin, but would like TS to confirm this. In general, European goods are much more expensive than Malaysia's.

Should TS is headed for Dublin, the service centers of various international brands should be easily available. And it is advisable to extend your warranty to the maximum for a peace of your mind. And since TS is headed for Ireland, try to stick with internationally renowned brands, Dell, HP, Lenovo, just to name a few.

agree.. xin was always there when we hav probs. he helps us a lot.. vahn87 n beyond430 too..

i would recommen to buy there.. i heard some oversea laptop hav climate control.. like they specially built the laptop accordin to the local temperature n vapour density.. heard from my uncle, his laptop which bought overseas has tis kind of proctection. lets say when he walks in snow taking wif his laptop, then wanna use it in the house, he would hav to wait untill the notebook temperature warm to idle temperature or else it wouldn't switch on.
it's to prevent the vapour in the air condense n cause short circuit to the electronic board. juz hearsay.. but x noe whether true a not.. anyway, it's a nice protection feature.

cheers .... the feature mentioned is available to all notebooks ..this feature uses the various sensor in our chipsets and cpu to determine the moisture temperature within the notebook circiut to either stalk or delay the notebook from futher damage. So either u buy it here or Ireland it is the same.. They have this feature ... that is why when our lappy overheats it shuoff automatically ...same applies to overcold lol ...maybe here we dun experience overCold ..hehe thumbup.gif

Depends on how long you plan to stay overseas.
If you plan to stay within 1 year.. I suggest you get from the country you gonna reside for that one year. At least the warranty is covered, while you are in the country.

ya, if the warranty is international or global 1 shud be no problem if service at oversea, just check it out izzit covered.. but sum lappy come with 1 year international and 2 years following is just for local.. read TnC carefully...

Regarding Singapore, I don't have much knowledge on prices there, but the last time I check, due to the GST imposed, the price of the laptops are slightly higher than in Malaysia, but due to the loophole of Malaysians being reimbursed with the GST paid. In the end, the sum should round out to be around the Malaysian price.

Cheers

It all depends are you going to reside in singapore a long period? let's say a few years of studying or working? so it is always better to just buy the notebook at Singapore, Otherwise, can just get from Msia if you are goin there for a year. Just have ur warranty period extended for better reliability. Since Kaiserreich do mentioned the price diff should be not much both in msia or singapore..

for me, i prefer buy locally.

when u r going out, u might need to prepare alot of things and do rmb, u maybe new at there and u're not familiar over there, dun think foreign ppl will very hornest to you... haha.. so, y dun u get it here, u can preload some movie and song some more.. haha..

bout the warranty u can always check with the reseller whether the model u brought got support at the country u'll move to.. its easy while.. buy there lagi mafan... normally lei, if u take good care to ur laptop, it wont have any major problem in time 1 or 2 years, those problem will come out start the third year.. maybe that time u alrd come back, but here no warranty support for the model u brought.. then? "SEI LO..." haha...

Too bad your friend did not realize the magics of internet where you can check the price of laptops bought in foreign land first before going there.

the General Rule is, find out the place you are going to, do research on the price offered there and here, compare the warranty offered, and make your decision

Unless its a brand like Apple or other brands that are not pop in malaysia or offer student discount overseas. Malaysia price is about the best you can get. If you are getting dell or hp, definitely should get it here coz dell and hp international laptops are the same, so wherever oso got parts.

Check if you have student discount.

Hi all, I hope its not too late for me to join in this thread.

First of all its all depends on where ur going overseas and budget. If ur going to the States, then start saving some money and get the new and only m9750 by Alienware or prolly MacBook Pro ( Boo !! ) for those who prefer Mac. If ur going to Europe theres actually AW sites for UK and they are quite establish now as far as im concerned.

If u ask me to buy one locally or oversea, it really depends on the brand you favor. If you ask me about the warranty personally you wouldnt need it unless what ur expect from a warranty is accidental-warranty (or whatever it called for something that happen that might trash ur rig and you will get replace for free) which is currently available from Dell. FYI, if u order an XPS overseas u will have to wait for them to assemble/build it at Malaysia then ship it to you.brows.gif (my friend owns one and yes it ships all the way from Malaysia to him bla bla .. u know the rest)

You also will need warranty for lcd replacement purpose like dead pixels on ur screens or cracked motherboard.. which again it will cost u more to have INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY for some brands like Acer etc, for dell i seriously dont have any idea but i bet it works that way too..

Expect to buy here/locally with all maxed out so you wont have trouble to upgrade it later when you already overseas except for dead pixels, overheated parts, or accidental/stolen problem.

Buy overseas if uniqueness and good customer services (locally THERE) is what you expected. Or prolly some discounted price for items upgrade or accessories. Not to forget, if better technology is what you opt like MIMO wireless Air-go jadah2 (haha!!) or SLi-enabled laptop.. so u better off choose to buy it overseas.

I'll add more if anyone seems interested like howz the shipping and handling for brands like Alienware works for international customers..

I hope u guys find this helps..

Be specific so i could advise precisely rather than being general about everything.. PM's works too..

If you're going to the States HAH there will be no problem at all.. from the screen to every part of system.. u can find 3rd-party or seperate companies that sells everything for alot cheaper or much much more expensive.. If the latest technology of mobile systems is what ur concern i can continue to spit it out for lilbit by request..

the shipping part.. im sorry if this sounds like a bad news.. last time i check the shipping to Malaysia will cause you about 400 USD so its about RM1200++. If you are an international customer which I presume you are staying here at Malaysia.. the repair or anything that will need you to send ur system to their depot will cost you the SHIPPING to them only... the warranty parts itself (consider you dont void ur warranty such as self-overclocking, self-paintfinish etc.) and the SHIPPING back to you will be covered by AW. This is required to all customer that lives outside US and Canada. It just how it works.

Let say ur going overseas then, we pick UK for example. then shipping will cost you at local rates. Even in the US, the shipping and TAXes (ppl always forget to include this !) cost about 100USD ++. taxes for imported goods or whatever will all paid by the customer. I had the link for the Alienware warranty sites but i lost it. U can go on and read it at AW sites if you dont believe me. For UK customers, they have the stocks and everything there so it wont cost as much as you buy it here locally with shipping, handling and taxes. but if m9750 is what you're opting.. even the Europe will hardly to be one of the first to own this superb outstanding mobile systems.

If you really really interested, the Alienware fraud caution steps would hold you off the moment you want to pay the orders. They will need the Social Security number (like IC in the States) in order you to have/order one even if you are currently in the States. Unless you have one, you will be consider international customers. For international customers, you need to fill in forms and scan all the pics the credit cards bla bla.. fill in the form and then you done with the order phase..

You can go to AW site right now configure everything and do the shipping part... stop right there you can roughly check what it might cost u includes the shipping etc..

no problem.. yup that's definitely how i would see it.. except for XPS models.. even if its not here Dell parts is not as unique as Alienware parts.. (i know Dell owns Alienware but still, like xin said u hardly seen Corvette here but Fords,Corvette n other are also under one roof, GM.. )

Again I would suggest Asus or Dell's XPS for mobile gaming rigs.

Too bad your friend did not realize the magics of internet where you can check the price of laptops bought in foreign land first before going there.

the General Rule is, find out the place you are going to, do research on the price offered there and here, compare the warranty offered, and make your decision
