Hyper terminal has been removed from Vista by Microsoft.
Try the "alternative" http://www.hilgraeve.com/hyperterminal.html |

Anybody know any software that could bypass the build-in Windows Update? I'd like to use 3rd party download manager so that I could keep the updates, and reuse them when I do reformat my Vista.
Nao, I need to redownload all over again and I think it's a waste of bandwidth to redownload the updates everytiem I reformat my Vista. Thank you in advance. |

The reason for having Windows Update is to ensure that the relevant and right software update or patches are delivered to your machine. Also, updates are normally cumulative so if you were to use your own download manager, you'll might be installing old updates that has been superceded. Just a thought.
Even with our less than optimum broadband speed, I think it is not too much a wait to get all the latest software update and patches after each install. |

Yep I do have broadband nao, but not after I go back to my campus.
I'm going back to my campus this weekend, and the network admin of my campus impose 2MB download limit. This implies anybody who use the network can't download any file with size greater than 2MB. Being an impulsive user, I tend to test/adjust my OS to my likings and you know, sometime shits happen. Lulz so reformating is my preferred option. Imagine you can't download greater than 2MB for the whole semester, about plus minus 14 weeks. It saks. |

If you continue to adjust and tweak your OS, then use the System Restore function to enable you to rollback to the previous stage. Also, do a Complete Backup of your computer so that you can restore it.
If you really want to do something on your own, I comeacross this script that might help with what you are trying to achieve. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa387102(VS.85).aspx Hope you are ok with Windows scripting. |

At minimum, go with Windows Server 2003. Windows Server 2000 is no longer in mainstream support by Microsoft. Many of the advanced features in Vista will integrated well with Windows Server 2008 so you might want to consider Windows Server 2008 instead.

hi guys,
i bought a new laptop back in march. it's a dell latitude and came with vista business. as my previous system is a desktop running XP this was my first foray to using vista. no problem on the laptop n vista generally. it works well. recently i checked n found out from the system information that its not vista SP1. lurking around in the forum i get to know how to check my vista build number. it is 6000.16584.x86fre.vista_gdr.071023-1545. this is not sp1 build number right? or isit? i turn on my automatic updates & when i try to update the microsoft website tell me that my vista is up to date. why doesnt my vista upgrade itself to sp1? should i do it manually or something missing here. edit : typo error This post has been edited by kai_rel: Jul 26 2008, 08:22 PM |
