i was just wondering ...which one of all of this is the best ... i'm planning to buy one later on ..but still wondering about this....anyone with experince could share tips n suggestion

DV tape camera - will give you endless pain, capture till you die.
DVD video camera - will give you endless error. read/write you name it.
HDD video camera - quite fragile, one knock you loss everything, the best among these 3.

but i'd buy this:


canon tx1, good video quality, pocketable, very small, can take still picture, use sd card, wait for 8gb sdhc price to drop.

in term of the quality, I guess MiniDV is the best....but consume time to convert it into the digital one.

Mini DV is the best quality but very troublesome for video-transfering & editing

HDD! no need to convert

if using HDD camera...what format will it be when transfer to comp???
my fren use the JVC one the format was nvr seen b4 ..so need to be converted before editing...

it's quite fun for me and it's flexible to edit, of course the user must has the interest in video editing 1st

Mini DV is the best? Really? I've been using Mini DV since 2002 and thought of changing to HDD, but if Mini DV is the best might just continue using it. Yea, transferring and editing takes too much of your time.

if u read thru reviews on web, many commented that DV is still the best in picture quality; unless u willing to dump the $ into HD capable HDD camcorder (~RM6K) , i suppose the performance is on par

the price for HD cam by sony is damn expensive..all vid cam is also RM5999
but if go to camera shop the price is much2 cheaper but still kinda high for video cam lar..for the DV one it would be around 3400 like that..
i guess it's true that DV is the best since all the tv stations and recording of tv shows also still use DV camera just in HD....
i got to know that DV camera is half analog and half digital..
if DVD and HDD is fully digital..the video output is not that great as DV..
DV takes a lot of time huh???
that's the only set back...

DV capturing takes 1:1 time of the length, that is if u record for one hour video, capturing frm DV to PC would take one hour as well; at this stage, u can burn as DVD. But if u want to do editing, then that would take u some time but that is fun to me.

since i'm a mass communication student with all the projects to come ..i think i'll go for the mini DV...since editing should be a skill that is good to have..

What editing software do u normally use? I tried a few and end up using Ulead VideoStudio Ver 6 until now. To me its good enough. Or is it too outdated?

i'm doing it for my family/friends/trip events, i found cyberlink powerdirector 6 caters all my needs, adobe premiere is way too sophisticated for me

Just convert it, then leave it as u can have lunch or doing sumthing else while converting it. It's not a big deal though...

TAPE or DVD or HDD

For me being in the industry of video filming, TAPE is still the choice and the best. Cause it allows you to capture in RAW mode or actuall quality. We need this for our work as to deliver good videos.

Cant use DVD or HDD cameras as it captures at mpeg quality...already compressed. AVI is more friendly to edit. Though I have waste a lot of time while capturing but you can always do something else while it is capturing.

If you want short cut or easy work then TAPE is not the choice for you.

Is this thing on the market already? How much is it?

Added on May 16, 2007, 9:39 amAfter much searching I finally bought the canon tx1. So far I'm very impress with the video quality both in 480x640 and 720p mode. I think its much better than any previos minidv that i have seen. The downside is that the filesize is very huge but at least the process of transfering video to PC is very easy and fast. Just copy & paste just like pendrive.
