For me primer is for unpainted wall because it will seal the wall and make it non-porous that the paint will have even finish for one reason.
Primer also can cover stain so that the wall finishing will look evenly toned with no darker spot on stained portion.

I just started painting using the Nippon momento paint. My wall existing colour is light cream colour. I am wondering whether is it necessary to paint two coat of primer or just one coat will do. TIA
