QUOTE(Eiraku @ May 3 2007, 03:16 AM) Well, Dell only provides for the XPS M1210 here in Malaysia... I'll put up info on both the M1710 and the M2010 (which is not quite a laptop, really) as soon as they start selling them here in Malaysia, but the only XPS we have in Malaysia right now is the M1210... If u're playing graphic intensive games, i recommend you to get a laptop cooler. It really cools down ur laptop tremendously... well at least for mine(I'm using Coolermaster Coolpad). I think it's quite normal for laptops to heat up while playing 3D games. But, if I must, no problems mate... Renaming thread... I can always put up a new thread for the M1710 later... Sorry for the trouble... Sorry about that... But, I'm letting it be nonetheless because: 1) The gap's not THAT big, it's more of a misalignment actually... 2) I'm not going to let the "Legion of Doom" (aka the on-site repair people) touch my XPS unless it's a critical problem. There might be only the tiniest of chances that they might just screw up my LCD (and everything else) in the process, but I'm not gonna risk it... Not yet anyway, unless I get too annoyed with the gap in a few months from now... Then I'll call em up pronto... Added on May 3, 2007, 3:53 amWell, I'm back home for the hols, and now I'm noticing something quite funny... Placing my XPS on a flat level surface in an air conditioned room (ie. on the table in my room) and then playing STALKER (or any other 3D intensive game), the air coming out of the left side exhaust vent can get quite warm... Not enough to burn my hand, but to the point that I can actually smell it (hot air smell, can't really describe well)... Have never faced this problem in my hostel, as there's not AC there and the small chair I put my XPS on is not really flat (its curved downwards a bit = better air circulation?)... It's never done this even when I use it on my lap... Granted I've never played games on battery... Temporary solution, prop the back side up with a book... Now its running at about 20-40 degrees inclination = better air circulation = cooler (but still lukewarm) air... The Intel temp thingy is showing 40-50 degrees celsius for the CPU, but as there are some people who say that it's incompatible with Vista, I'll have to try again using Everest or something like that... The highest I've seen the graphics chip temp go is around 70-75 degrees, and even that was when I was experimenting with ATITools (was overclocking the 7400go a bit, eventually got scared that I might fry the chip and returned it to the stock settings)... I'll have to check with Everest later how hot it's running now... So guys, especially those who have been using their XPS for a while, is this normal or abnormal? I'm guessing that it's normal, and that is has been happening for a while... Its just that only in the dry, cool, empty air of my AC room that I could really notice (and smell) how warm it is... Of course, I might be wrong and my 7400go (or the processor) might be burning itself alive... This post has been edited by Haneda: May 3 2007, 07:32 AM |

QUOTE(unknowndevices @ May 7 2007, 03:20 AM) yups...did asked Dell assistance...they said no problem having the battery inserted... don't xps have a cover to put in place of the battery to cover up the "hole"?also concerned about the dust get into the notebook as the battery removed... it seems the battery area got lots of open spaces that would let the dust easily enter into it... |

Got my xps already!! So far, I'm loving it. the build quality is surprisingly quite solid... i was expecting it to be flimsy like fujitsu 12" lifebook. The keyboard and touchpad are quite comfy to use.... just like my old dell 4150. 1 thing i notice tho is the xps gets heated up quite fast. Well.. i'll give a lengthy updates once i use this baby more

The XPS XPerience: Episode I
Got my XPS last tuesday. Here's my XPS spec: - Core 2 Duo T7200 (Recommended) - Windows Vista Business - 3Yrs XPS Premier Service (24x7 Phone Support) + 3Yrs CompleteCover (Next - 12.1" Wide Screen XGA TFT Display With TrueLife(tm) - 1280 x 800 + 1.3MP Webcam - - 2048MB DDR2 [1024mb x 2 ] 667mhz - 120GB 5400rpm - Internal 8x DVD +/- RW Combination Drive with dual layer write Capabilities - Dell(tm) Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module - Wireless Network Connection - Intel (R) PRO/ Wireless 3945ABG Dual-Band 802.11a/b/g 54Mbps Wireless Mini Card - Intergrated SigmaTel Sound Card (Standard) - 256MB (64 dedicated + 192 TurboCache - shared) Nvidia GeForce 7400go - 6-cell 56Whr Lithium Ion Primary Battery (Standard) Other Standard Specs - 1 ExpressCard Slot (34/54) - Internal Dell(tm) 84 Keys Keyboard (Grey) - Black and Silver with Chrome Accents - Integrated 10/100 Fast Ethernet - Intel(R) 945 Chipset Family - Dell(tm) PC-Restore - Internal 56K Modem - RJ-11 Modem cable - 65W AC Adapter - Dell(tm) Media Direct 3.0 - Magnesium Lid and Frame. - Weight 2kg++ approx. First thing i did when i unpacked the box was to check for any build defects and there were none. Powered it for the 1st time to setup my home wifi connection and I was quite impressed with the screen's vividness. There were neither squeaky sound from the HDD nor any high pitched noises from the C2D like many over here have encountered. The keyboard was very pleasant to type on, very much like my old Inspiron 4150. The only thing I am not used to is having to use the Fn key to activate Prnt Scr and Pause Break keys. One thing I don't like is the placing of the headphone input. Since I will be using my 2.1 speakers at home.. having the headphone input infront is messy. They probably didn't think of users using external speakers when they design this. Tried playing Guild Wars the next day. The graphics was awesome at high settings, 1280x800 and I'm getting an average of 40-60fps. Smooth! The only lag I experience is most likely contributed by our godly streamyx Brought my XPS to office to install MS office and other dev tools. Though the XPS is kinda heavy for an ultraportable, I'm glad that I don't have to break my shoulder carrying my IBM Thinkpad R32 to work anymore. My XPS became the center of attraction among my female colleagues.. haha. A real chick magnet! Well, that's the end of the 1st episode of The XPS XPerience! |

Any idea how to purchase an extra Dell power adapter and a dell external keyboard? It's not available in Dell's webpage.

QUOTE(derred @ Jun 23 2007, 10:44 AM) I read m1330 is coming out July 10th, hmmm and it is said it will be available globally. The m1330 only has 2 USB ports compared to 4 in m1210... and the headphone jack is still located in front :\ The fingerprint scanner looks kinda out of place.Dell's m1330 impressive. At first i wouldnt mind they have the mousepad more to the left, but now almost all of em have the same feature so im sick of it. My m9700 wont be special anymore. |

QUOTE(dotn3t @ Jan 24 2008, 10:52 AM) hay guys, How did your battery died? my XPS batt died on me last week, just got a replacement from dell today. They ugpraded from 6 cell to 9 cell batt for me But now my laptop LCD cant display (no power) during startup. Sometimes can sometimes can't. The technician told me it might be mobo, GPU (GF 7400 Go) or the LCD itself. Damnit.....one week without my notebook. I just got a message prompt stating "your battery is able to charge normally however it is reaching the end of its usable life". What the hell, my XPS is only abt 7-8months old! Worst of all.. the message states this is not covered under warranty! My old Inspiron 4150's battery was still good after more than 1 yr of usage and I expect XPS should perform better! Not sure if i can nego a free replacement! Buying a new batt in less than a yr is ridiculous! |
