sweater enough? hehe

is it rainy now at Osaka, Kobe & Nara?
*
Traveled down to Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe last week. I wore Nike shoes, sweater pants, thin cotton t-shirt (sometimes with a windbreaker) throughout my trip.

Inb4, I have a pretty high tolerance for cold. Wore similar clothings daily up here in Ishikawa where the temperature is below zero

17k as in yen or myr??
*
17k yen laugh.gif that's for a decent one..I seen pricier ones

QUOTE(sweet_pez @ Mar 5 2018, 11:45 AM)
I suggest Ghibli on a weekday instead of weekend.  Over the weekday I went, it's already packed, if you go on a weekend, there'll be even more people.

As for ShirakawaGo... if you go after Winter, it's usually just the greens and gassho zukuri houses. Winter is the most beautiful there, but since you have already made plans... no harm.

For Takayama, I recommend this restaurant for dinner: Tenaga Ashinaga Hommachi
I don't take beef but friends said the beef was good. The noodle and chashu meal is ichiban as well.

Ginza is best over the weekend, to enjoy the pedestrian's heaven. However if it's hard to rearrange the schedule, just leave it. Odaiba is also a nice place if you can make time for it.

*P/S: Lastly, theme parks or high energy activities are best to be placed in the early phase of the trip as you're still fresh and excited. Towards the end of a trip you're usually tired and worn out, so going to a theme park will probably sap even more of your energy.
*
must try Hida beef at Takayama, one of my favourite drool.gif

QUOTE(mugenz @ Mar 5 2018, 04:48 PM)
A5 grade?

There are some affordable ones like steakland. Even some restaurants do serve lunch menu from 4K yen to 8k yen  for dinner menu for normal kobe beef (150gram with soup, grill vege, rice and fruits).

I think not everyone can afford A5 grade but going to visit kobe but still can try of kobe beef for normal grade without burning hole in the pocket.

If going to chinatown of Kobe, there are some small shops that serve kobe beef as snacks.
*
yea, since I purposely travel down to Kobe from Kanazawa laugh.gif although the price is almost double the one I had in Ginza, the difference is just so obvious

on a side note, usually I can get a pack of A-5 wagyu for less than 2k yen from the local supermarket. just grill with a little salt, black pepper n roast garlic drool.gif

Damn! Good idea as well, I will staying in Airbnb, ishould able to just grill via electrical stove.
Will be going Kobe just for half day. Gonna have it for lunch then come back. If that's the case, why not just buy a slab from supermarket and come back cook lol~

Local supermarket in Kobe?
*
some random supermarket in Ishikawa, I'm living here, hence I could buy a slab and experiment all I want laugh.gif but since you are travelling, it's better to spend some money for a professional chef to cook it right rather than having well-done A-5 steak laugh.gif

QUOTE(sweet_pez @ Mar 5 2018, 05:21 PM)
Ah well its more of a religion thingy. I feel happy seeing my friends enjoy them, so the happiness is shared. I may not eat them, but I could feel the same enjoyment from watching them eat  biggrin.gif travelling is also about harmony with your friends.
Hahahaha fret not. Part of the fun is to try communicating. Read Page 1 post #1. There is a guide of Japanese in Romaji. Save a copy and learn a couple of keywords especially on directions  wink.gif
*
Ah, I get it. well, at least you get to try the other delicacies smile.gif I only tried hida beef sushi while I was at Takayama, didn't explore any further at that time

QUOTE(skyxanxus @ Mar 5 2018, 08:31 PM)
Guys,

seeking some information from you guys. Do you guys know whether kobe university open to public? Plan to have a visit to kobe university
*
it's normally open as in you can just walk in. usually japanese universities does not have any gate/wall/stationary guards. I tried randomly walking into a university and sort of "camped" at the cafeteria for hours as Japanese summer is one hell of a summer. not sure about other university though

Thats the thing about Japan rails. pretty confusing to look at. Specially when you're looking at a monitor or google maps. Need multiple cross check. And if I'm not wrong, there's not a single card that passes all rails. Different type's diff card? Huyooo.. now only glad we have TnG
*
QUOTE(shirley_andy @ Mar 9 2018, 05:33 PM)
ICOCA can be used on all rails in Kansai area right?
*
they integrated all or most of the IC card. can be used all over JP trains except for some super rural ones like the one around my area (北陸鉄道) laugh.gif

*

Just when i’m ok to purchase full fare, the JR ppl decided to throw a curveball again.

Now they are doing advanced sales ticket from 2-6pm a day before for 15-16 April. Now I’m worried that it could get sold out (or very late departure time) for same-day sales at 5am
*
haha! too bad laugh.gif hope you can get the ticket, besides, visiting which part of Ishikawa?

inb4, went for a walk yesterday, sakura biggrin.gif to be honest, I already start missing winter

QUOTE(mugenz @ Apr 23 2018, 10:45 AM)
Just back from 10 days trip from Osaka, kyoto, kobe, fuji 5 lake and Tokyo!

Overall too crowded with people. Missed 90% of the sakura but luckily still able to catch blooming in fuji 5 lake but unfortunately it rained whole day hence missed the view of mt. fuji (Wasted room and onsen with mt. fuji view)

Only thing i will miss is the food, can randomly walk in and the food can still taste damn good. Beef is all over the place. Dont have to purposely go Kobe to try but if for the experience then its fine. Tsukiji market is really overrated. Kuromon is better and less "cut-throat".

The trains schedule can be very tricky. Look out for rapid or local train. Can be very confusing. So do plan buffer time to make sure to get the right track and train. Like others say the train is 99% on time all the time.

For those night-owls, the shops close fairly early even in tokyo. 9pm almost like dead town. So plan ur shopping early.
*
even kuromon is pretty bad IMO..Tsukiji was more like a tourist attraction than a market sweat.gif prefer Omicho market in Kanazawa, less "touristy"

Btw luckily didnt buy, i went to ask shops about japan units and apparently no region lock but malaysia and japan electric voltage is different. It might not even work and worst might explode if simply plug in.
*
god forbid you plug JP appliances into the wall without checking the power rating laugh.gif laugh.gif
if it mentioned 110~250VAC then it would be fine..otherwise if 110VAC, you need to get a transformer, otherwise it would go up in smoke..

oh the ICOCA can keep 10 years? dang... should have kept it.

When return for refund you'll get charged certain amount as service/processing fee. then the next time get another card will get charge another time.
*
not only 10 years I think. I remember reading something about even if u leave JP for like 9 years and come back to JP, once u use the card, it will add another 10 years to the last used date.

QUOTE(tbcheese @ Apr 27 2018, 05:35 PM)
Yeah haha. That's what I did in 2015. Got the regular ICOCA back then and used it up to minimise the handling charge. This time round I bought the Astroboy ICOCA so I kept the card.
*
I have the Astro boy too laugh.gif laugh.gif

So far I've not had much "weird" tasting stuff (probably I ain't very adventurous) except for the yuzu-tasting ramen by Afuri. It just didn't work for me.
*
wut? Afuri yuzu ramen is my favorite, especially after a whole day of "heavy broth/重口味" meals laugh.gif

Hahahahaha taste is subjective. Probably coz friend chose the "strong" yuzu - it was really too much for me happy.gif;  ...but even so, personally I still prefer Ichiran
*
Yea, I always order the extra yuzu flavour, it's something really special IMO compared to the crappy ramens here in Kanazawa laugh.gif have you tried the "dry/kon lou" ramen? the one from musashi ramen in Roppongi is seriously gooooood
