hi apple lads, ayam got aquestion...

is iP8 still worth to be getting nowadays???
been using android for more than 5 years now and current oneplus one is dying, in need of new phones. but the problem is there's not much of a choice when it comes to reliable 5" inch phone(thanks to samsung brick note for starting this trend).
so i've narrowed it down to iP8
but in terms of the device itself and its high price point. is it really worth it for long running, the plan is to keep using it until 3-4 years to come. what are the drawbacks here? is there any better alternative? (my guess is no alt. , but i could be overlooking)
hopefully can get some advice/caution here before pulling the trigger and then be regret with this decision making(which i really want to avoid)
cheers!
First things first. The bad stuffs. Android is a very different system from iOS. You either like it or hate it, depending on your needs and usage patterns. So to pay more than 2k for a system you're not sure if you will end up liking or not is definitely a risk. There's no 2 ways about that.
The iPhone 8's design is similar to the iPhone 6, which means it's a 4-year-old design. In this day and age of thin or almost no bezels, the 8 will look ancient, so much so that it's also the last of Apple's phone with these thick bezels and the home button, I'm sure you've seen the new generation iPhones. I mean I get that you'd prefer a compact phone but for that same size of the iPhone 8, you could get other alternatives with more screen estate. Off the top of my head, there's the S9 or even the HTC U11. Both great devices.
As for battery life, iOS devices have excellent standby, but they deplete as fast as their Android counterparts during use, and they run out of juice earlier too as they typically pack a smaller battery compared to Androids. So that's one thing to bear in mind too.
The good is iOS devices are guaranteed support for at least 4 years. In fact, the latest iOS 12 is even supported by the iPhone 5S, which is 5 years old. You're guaranteed to get frequent software updates too, as Apple controls both software and hardware, they tend to push updates faster than other phone manufacturers. As for Android, Google has gone on record to guarantee at least 2 years of updates, but go with the right phone manufacturer and maybe you'll get more.
The A11 chip in the iPhone 8 has been benchmarked against the latest SD845 and it's still ahead in most areas, so rest assured you're getting a very capable phone, and the way iOS is designed, you can be sure it won't lag behind or run out of steam in the next 3-4 years. So longevity isn't an issue.
In the end, it's up to you to decide the pros and cons before pulling the trigger!
