Dear All, do you find the 5K Player plays videos softly? When comparing it with VLC, the imagery sharpness has huge difference!
There are very few image settings in 5K Player, and I couldn't find a "sharpness" setting there.
Wondering anyone experiencing this? Did I do anything wrong on the 5K Player?
here i attached screen captured from VLC and 5K Player here, please compare.

Thanks!

If you can use both vlc and 5k player why use 5k?
The image size attach is different, right appears larger, wondering is there any up sampling or changes in output format?

not 100% accurate in size, but i can guarantee when displaying full screen, the imagery just look like the two pictures attached above. The 5K Player image just too blurry. I wish it's something wrong i did on the 5K player, because it seems like a popular player in the internet, hard to believe quality so bad.
I use the 5K Player just because VLC cannot play 4K videos properly.
If you have other free player to play good quality 4K videos, please let me know.

Thank you!

mpc-hc 15 years ago, and still mpc-hc going forward now. The player itself is basic and nothing to shout about, but in terms of customization and other enhancements/performance, nothing else comes close.

Vlc cannot play 4k properly hmm.gif what is not supported? You mean those dolby settings... in terms of video codec, it should support all. Care to elaborate more on your input format?

for instance, if you downloaded a 4K video from vimeo or youtube (or even 4K videos shot with a smartphone), the VLC can't play it smoothly, but the 5K Player can play it smoothly.
my computer is quite powerful, shouldn't be hardware issue. It's a i7-6700K with 8GB RAM and GTX 1070 graphics card.

example: just download any 4K video from this page: https://www.cameralabs.com/sony-alpha-a7r-mark-iii-review/2/

so you have no problem playing back 4K videos on the VLC?

ok. i had installed KMplayer and mpc player.
since kmplayer does not allow to view full screen unless i set it as default player, i'll do a different test on it later.

now the comparison screen captures:

now since kmplayer can only be played in small size (without setting it to my default player), i made the vlc same size as it for comparison.

And yes, thanks guys, all these kmplayer mpc and 5kplayer can play 4K videos properly. Only the VLC cannot! But, the image quality of VLC beats them all by huge details on resolution and dynamic range.

From the above comparison, i guess from best to worst image quality for my eyes: VLC->KMPlayer->5K Player->MPC.

Too bad, VLC can't play 4K properly!

4k "exclusive" players are over-rated bro. 4k is just a resolution, any player can play 4k vids given that you have decent hardware to render it.

MPC-HC is simply a base platform, what makes it stand out is the massive amount of plugin/filters and renderer customizations.

For starters you may want to have a look at klite (https://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm). This has been around for years(15-20 maybe?) and they are still updating it even now. All the settings available will seem overwhelming at first, but when you found your sweet spot, you won't find a subsitute.

Oh and btw, i shared this in another thread, if your hardware is fast enough, you can try this. Its awesome.

Another thing i would like to reiterate, image quality is same as food. It is subjective from people to people, why?

1. Different monitor
2. Different ambient lightings
3. Different hardwares
4. Different sources

The list goes on and on, my point is, experiment around and use whatever suits you best.

Easy, just use mph-hc + madvr, you can upscale the video + sharpening + noise removal,
at the cost of computing performance.

my hardware is i7-6700K, GTX 1070, 8GB RAM. I think it's more than enough for any 4K playback.
as you can read here, i now tried 4 players, 3 of them are able to play 4K properly, but just the VLC failed to do so. And image quality, the VLC is a clear leader in the 4 mentioned. MPC seems like the clear loser here. The 5KPlayer and KMPlayer looks similar. On my personal opinion only.

regarding codec, nowadays it seems video players are getting advance that user no longer requires to headache on codec "library" concern. I remember many many years ago, codec is such a big deal, video files and players are so dependent on one another. However, today, these new generation players all can run many many codecs on its own. Users seems not need to worry too much on codec anymore. This is good thing, i guess. biggrin.gif

you may want to learn more about codecs first bro. Whatever thats being played requires codec, even those bigname players uses many open codecs and stock windows codec. For me, its never a good thing, especially when a certain player is so fixed dead that nothing can be done to improve it further.

Which is why i said, MPC-HC is only a base platform, using it stock defeats its purpose because MPC-HC can be found since early windows 98/ME era as stock windows player. What makes it good is the customizability. If you are looking for a stock player and just wanna play it back without tweaking anything, good luck searching bro. Every player has its drawbacks, its customizations that reduces or eliminate these drawbacks.
