Hi all,
Would like to get some input. Currently planning to get the Mazda3 1.5 liftback. Have been getting a lot of comments from colleagues that I shouldn't due to the vehicle being underpowered. My driving style usually never goes beyond 120 so will I actually be affected by the 1.5? If I were to get the 2.0, the price is not very significant but still substantial & I'm not sure if it's worth it because my main priorities here are comfort and emotion. Note that I will be driving a lot due to my job (sales/marketing) but outstation not as much. Mostly within Klang Valley. Passengers usually maybe just one or none.
Also, based on the YT reviews I've gone through, the 1.5 works well. I've scheduled for a test drive next week but as of now I'd appreciate some advice on this.
Also, can anyone share good SA near in PJ? I've heard that mazda SA does not practice slashing prices / giving discounts upfront, is that actually true?
if you have the budget then go for the 2.0 because while you may not be able to use all the horsepower, you'll definitely be able to take advantage of getting more torque at lower rpms which translate to less engine revving hence less noise.
just to put the engine power into perspective.
the 9th generation Honda Accord has a HP to weight ratio of
0.1:1 (@6500rpm) and torque to weight ratio of
0.12:1 (@4300rpm).
the 1.5 mazda 3 has a HP to weight ratio of
0.08:1 (@6000rpm) and torque to weight ratio of
0.11:1 (@4000rpm).
so statistically speaking, you shouldn't feel that the 1.5 is "severely underpowered" like what non-owners claimed however i got to admit, when it comes to highway speed, the 1.5 should find itself struggling or to be very noisy if it tries to breach the 120km/h mark.
then again, with the interior of the mazda 3 looking this good, couldn't understand why would anyone want to get in and get out of the car as soon as they can.
