The Malacca monorail service will begin operating again tomorrow, after being suspended since 2013 due to technical problems.

Malacca City mayor Zainal Abu said the service would operate from 10am to 10pm on weekdays, with extended service till midnight on weekends.

"Currently, only one coach which can accommodate up to 15 people will travel each round within 30 minutes," he said when contacted by Bernama, adding that tickets would be sold at RM10 each.

The 1.6 kilometre-line built at a cost of RM16.5 million connects Taman Rempah to the Hang Tuah Station on Jalan Bunga Raya.

Actually we can set the monorail to complete the 2.8km track below 10 minutes but considering this monorail is for tourist hence we set it to 8km/h.

For TOURISM ???????????????

That certainly is a very BIG JOKE !

What was the original purpose of having this MONORAIL ?

Do they dare to do POSTMORTEM ?

Looking at this ---------- will just reflect on the HIGH SPEED TRAINS from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore .
And the other one to East Coast
Further the Carey island PORT INFRASTRUCTURE

Will all these have the same FATE as the MONORAIL in Melaka in the future ???

To be fair, a trishaw ride also costs 10 MYR per 15 minutes. Just that someone may have to sponsor this thing.

With price of rm10/tix, that covers only a very very short distance, it will remain a dead project with no passengers interested.

Hence why we are planning to build a theme park around the monorail track for added value. Altogether the project should cost us around 120million ringgit fully funded by our own board of directors.

Rm10 is quite reasonable for fun ride.
I suggest for interesting info of that particular area to be played or aired via tv screen or tourist guide.
Make it as the riders are in the parameswara boat, exploring melaka.
Thats a plus point.

I beam and other steel structures got do Eddy Current? This one one time see also you know design to the bare minimum liao. 8km/h. Any faster i think the rail won't survive the bends

Don't know why many here laughing at the price when the freaking KLIA ekspres is charging RM50++ for about 30 minutes too.

U bodoh or what?

This toytrain runs at 8km/h covering a distance of less than 2 km, KLIA express runs at how many km/h and covers how many Km?

Wow this thing can be used by only 360 people per day on weekdays and 420 on weekends (and that's max capacity). Another level of crap planning here.

Feels like the Caterpillar Monorail in Genting biggrin.gif

That monorail 100 times better than this lah. You look at the train width size and the rails. It's speed is slow because its meant for sightseeing.

Let’s assume it runs 18 hour per day (5.30am till 11.30pm) and it runs both direction once every 30min. That’s 18hr x 4 trip per hr x 15 person per trip x RM10 per person = RM10800 per day. 16.5mil/10.8k per day = 4.2 years just to collect fare equivalent to cost of construction. If factor in Operation and maintenance cost forever cannot t break even.

If running only 12 hr per day max capacity also need 6.3 years excluding Operation and maintenance cost.

Keeimpulannya, stupiak project.

MELAKA: The Sungai Melaka tourist monorail, which resumed operations on Dec 4 after being suspended since 2013 due to technical problems, received encouraging response from the public.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said nearly 10,000 passengers have used the service within two weeks of resuming operations.

He said the operator, Monorail Themepark and Studios Sdn Bhd (MTS), would acquire a second coach in January 2018 to increase its capacity.

"Currently the one coach in operation can carry up to 650 passengers a day and the second coach will be able to accommodate another 700 passengers daily," he said after launching the recreational monorail service at the Tun Ali Station in Jalan Tun Ali here.

Idris said based on the figures by MTS, the service is expected to generate an annual gross profit of RM1.2mil.

He said 5% of the gross profit would be handed over to the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) which had spent RM8.7mil to revive and upgrade the service.

"I also wish to express my gratitude to the Tourism and Culture Ministry for channelling another RM13.2mil for the project," he said.

The 3km-long line connects Hang Tuah station in Jalan Bunga Raya Pantai to Taman Rempah in Pengkalan Rama, with each trip taking about 30 minutes.

The monorail operates from 10am to 11pm from Mondays to Thursdays, with extended service till midnight on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

At present, tickets for the service are sold at a promotional price of RM10.

Normal prices for the tickets are RM15 each for adults, RM12 for senior citizens and children from 3 to 12 years old and RM10 for the disabled and students in school uniforms.

For foreigners, the ticket prices are RM20 for adults and RM15 for senior citizens, children and disabled individuals respectively.

30min 1 ride, 13hrs operation, 2 weeks, 15person/ride = 5460
