So, I recently re-visited my childhood dream of playing the drums (family couldn't afford one in the past) and I got myself an electronic drum kit. Pic of it below

The thing works great, but now the issue is my flatmate is having trouble keeping sane because the kick is actually giving out a lot of acoustic noise, according to him it sounds like someone dribbling a basketball.
I've searched all over the net and the most promising DIY plan I have to dampen the noise passing 1 wall is by somehow attaching a bunch of towels to the wall between us, got the idea from this video:

I don't mind trying it out but towels are very expensive, even at econsave it costs at least 19.90 per piece for thick ones.

The people staying below me haven't made any complaints yet but I'll solve that issue with a DIY drum riser after I settle this wall. Any pointers?

inb4 egg cartons, they don't dampen noise; only reduce echo in a room, which I'm not setting out for.

I'm skipping practice for today and I feel worse already! Lend me your knowledge!

How would I hang them on the wall? Rented place by the way, no nails in walls for me.

add pillow where? behind the kick pad? I've added it already but it still doesn't work. I thought it would absorb the impact but it seems that it's bouncing off the other way when the beater hits the pad. I've even tried putting some sponge in the way but it still causes a basketball dribbling-like sound and in fact I need to kick harder because the sponge is in the way.

Edit: pic below is basic overview of my room. The pillow behind the drum set did prevent some noise going to the living hall, but my concern is the noise that's going the other way.
(arrows represent where the noise is going, smaller arrows meaning the pillow absorbed the noise going in that direction)

Put a sound dampener between your door and the floor. A lot of the sound escapes through that area.

bottom of the drum set? I thought the next room could hear it is because the sound is going off that way.
I'm thinking of making one to avoid trouble with my neighbors downstairs. Some tennis balls and wood is what I have in mind, any recommendation?
