Hi,

My existing bedroom and bathroom doors are normal wooden door (plywood, if I'm not mistaken. Original from developer).

Am thinking of changing them to aluminium doors. For this, they only need to dismantle the doors or need to remove the existing door frame too?

My main concern is :
1) Cost
2) Durability
3) Ease of installation (no hacking if possible)

Can't decide if aluminium (either folding or swing type) or wooden door is better. Any feedback are welcomed.

Thanks!

Bedroom - Plywood with wood frame is just fine. I don't see the need to change this.

Bathroom - Nowadays developers install plastic doors with aluminum hinges. Plywood will get rot. To change to aluminum, the frame normally will not be removed but slim aluminum frame will be screwed onto the existing frame. The other thing you will see is the (for folding door) the bottom side will have guide rail which can be annoying to step on smile.gif

For full swing aluminum door I think the contractor will use the existing frame, be it wood or galvanized metal

I believe the folding type (which is more modern look plenty of pattern on vinyl panel choice) cost around RM400+ including installation and it should take less than an hour to install. They are pre-made in shop normally.

1. cost definitely more expensive than plywood door

2. aluminium last longer (unless for folding type)

3. installation easy for swing type just need correct measurements

for me, i just go with wooden door, maybe change the paint or install a wallpaper

If you know how to takecare the plywood door, it can last freaking long.

My 3 toilet and room door is still a plywood original from developer. It is 20yrs old.

Depends. Some toilet is small and water splash to the door each time you shower. Imagine you have many people in house sharing the same toilet.

It can't.

Unless you seal it properly.

I see before. But instead of stainless steel, they use aluminium. The color dull and very ugly.

Overtime, inside become rod. Not seal properly and the water retain inside.
