I am a beginner who would like to get into photography as a hobby and am considering between a few DSLRs such as Canon EOS 350D, Canon EOS 400D, Nikon D40 and Nikon D40x. FYI, my budget is around 3K.

Any recommendations as to which camera I should get?

not worth getting d40x the difference is only d40x is 10.2 mp and the 3 continue shots compared with d40 6.1 mp and 2.5 continue shots

better safe more to get d80 this what i suggest

d50/d80/d70S also not bad

then how much is d80?
i might consider it...=)

the Pentax and Sony series comes with IS.

anyway if you're willing to settle for a used unit, then you can spend more on other stuff.

or maybe u can go for second hand d50(worth the price),and lens and technique is much much much better than body
lens u can use forever if u use it nicely
body there cant last forever due to the shutter
even D50 u also can take nice ppl

even i also bought 2nd hand. now added bag + 70-300mm lens + spare battery and charger + additional CF also not reaching 3k yet.

there's a D80 + battery grip (both still under warranty) asking for RM2900.
but now it's SOLD.

get a 2nd hand D70/D70s good condition body and Tamron 17-50 f2.8..ngam ngam and settle

mine's the EOS 350D. i got it with kit-lens and battery for about RM 1.75k.
then i bought additional battery + charger (RM 100+)
then i bought 70-300mm lens (~ RM 600)
then i bought a bag (~RM 100)

so yeah. that's it so far. CF card already have. just ordered a new one, so that'll set be back another ~RM 130 or so.

pictures? refer to gallery on my signature. AFAIK forummers like nairud and diwant are using 350D as well.

Welcome to the dark side , with RM3K the choice is pretty alot...from a new D40/40X/D50, 2md hand unit D70/D70s and again new 350D/400D

So you like Nikon or Canon ...do some home work and FOLLOW YOUR HEART what you want ( i mean brand, feature )...what we all discussED here is just AS A GUIDELINE for you...go WINDOWS SHOPPING is few shop (those recommended) and COMPARE THE PRICE yourself

I can tell you each Nikon-ian and Canon-ian will say go for their brand/model that their are unit...don't forget we have Sony Alpha, Pentax K10D,K100D user also...many many more model ....

the K10D isn't too bad, a good buy if you want alternatives

350D imho really needs to go with the extra batt. especially if you're using the in-built flash...

goldies, save up for speedlite 430EX guarantee no turning back

3k budget?
Fotokem now sells 350D with bag, tripod and either a 1gb or 2gb cf card for 2599. add a batt grip for it, less than RM3.1k

Sony Aplha is really complicated for setting.
Need press lotsa button for it.


Used once for Wedding dinner and i was going here and there to find the flash mode. Try guess how..
