Hello guys! I need some advise on this matter. I just purchased a macpro 2.66GHz Intel Duo Core processor for my company recently. I heard there's a new 3.0GHz Quad Core released, but it is a configure to order option. Do you think i can upgrade my processor without voiding the warranty? And does it work with my current motherboard? Can the processor be bought separately instead of buying a new macpro? Your advises are very much appreciated. notworthy.gif

OK i try and explain in bullet points easer (+ i am too lazy to type full sentences smile.gif )

1. there is little point in upgrading to the new quadcore processors unless u work for pixar or something and do ALOT of graphical work

2. many programs are yet to be optimised for dual core let alone QUAD-Core. It's just bragging rights at the moment, the prices of quad core processors will drop soon enough

3. It is impossible to upgrade those without voiding warantee, the only things i think u can upgrade without doing that is the VGA card and thats a big maybe and RAM (which i am pretty sure can).

4. Whether or not it works with current motherboard is not sure too, depends on the socket of the processor, i am not sure, research helps.

5. Processors can be bought seperately but buying 2 of them are like spending the same price as new iMac for them.

conclusion: save money and buy me a macpro thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

hope this helps
