I would place my bet on your power brick as well. If you have a friend or anyone that has a universal power brick, borrow it and test it out.

Happens all the time to gaming laptops and is no cause for alarm... yet. If power is not the issue, then you may have something to worry about.

Thanks for the tip. Will check on this tomorrow and update. Out of curiosity, if power brick is the issue, won't the laptop run on battery first before powering off? My experience is that it'll run on battery for about 10 secs before powering off completely. Battery is still above 90 percent at all times. And it's a new battery.

you are right too, then again, its worth diagnosing the cheaper possibility and eliminate them until all options are exhausted. If its the VRM as suggested by fellow forumers, its gonna be a pain...

Tried on a different power brick at an MSI shop. Same problem. I guess this is a motherboard issue already. Oh well.

Just mentioned potentially motherboard. Need more time to diagnose. But I'm uncomfortable to leave my laptop overnight. Probably gonna repurpose it to non gaming laptop.

i know how you feel... i don't feel good leaving my laptop even at official service centers. Perhaps you can move out your data first and just leave a blank OS there for them to take a look.

Did you get a result from this post. I have the same make and model of your post and my laptop has just started doing the same thing. I'm now currently going through MSI support UK.

Were you able to resolve the issue?

Thanks

Hi there! No. Support for MSI is pretty poor. They have to inspect, then request for parts from overseas. Whole process will take weeks.

I've since switched to HP gaming laptop.

Which HP model you use for gaming?

What about that MSI laptop then?

HP Inspiron 15 7000. At least they promise premium customer service.

My MSI currently I'm using for basic use. The mobo seems to be ok as long as I'm not running games. I think just a matter of time before it goes kaput for good.

Since you already have a new laptop for gaming, if the msi laptop still under warranty why not sent for warranty to fix it?

I need to ask, did you ever try underclock and undervolt the gpu to see if it is stable?

No. I did not. That's too technical for an uncle like me. All I've tried is change the battery and manually clean the fans and remove and stick back heat sinks with new compound.

And it's already not under warranty.

MSI Have mugged me of too. Mine was out of warranty and they wanted me to send in the Poland from the UK paying €100 for the privilege. I asked a few pressing questions and it turns out the MoBo and graphics are no longer supported, so even if I'd sent it, they wouldn't have been able to fix it. If I can get it fixed it'll be the last MSI product I ever buy.

I taking it to a local repair shop to see what they can do. If I get it repaired, I'll keep you apprised.
