QUOTE(netmatrix @ Nov 13 2017, 09:46 PM) Unfortunately, there’s little you can do.Your IC number is a permanent fixture of your life –and can’t be changed. This is bad design, but it’s the design we have at the moment. If you lose your Phone Number, Credit Card details or E-mail address, you’d still have some form of mitigating the damage. But if someone gets your IC number, you can’t go to the NRD and get them to issue you a new one. To be fair IC numbers (in their modern form) are at least 25 years old, so I’m not blaming anyone — but the reality is that we should either stop using IC numbers so extensively , or find some way to make them mutable. Not and easy task, but until that happens the damage of this leak will continue… in perpetuity. Now onto the good news! The leak is from 2014, so the chances of you having the same phone is minuscule. I know of only one person whose phone is older than 3 years old, everybody else has changed their phone. So IMEI numbers (which are tied to your phones) from 2014 are pretty useless. IMSI and SIM are almost the same as well. Over the past 3 years, I’m almost certain a large percentage of the victims (50-80%) would have their sim cards swapped — primarily from buying a new phone that required a micro or nano sim or from porting telcos, or just losing their phones. What’s not so good is the fact that most people still keep their Name, Address and Phone Number. So those are the top 3 (4 if you count IC Numbers) data elements in the breach, and unfortunately their almost all there From: https://www.keithrozario.com/2017/11/sayakenahack-com.html |

yup, phone numbers for all of my families match.
so much for PDPA, someone probably hacked the MCMC database or probably MCMC themselves sold our info to 3rd party (like some political party at least I changed my phones last year so the IMEI isn't the anymore... |

QUOTE(iwubpreve @ Nov 13 2017, 10:59 PM) probably available somewhere in the dark web and being sold for bitcoin, as reuters reportedAccording to a Singapore-based cybersecurity researcher, the leaked database was initially being sold on several underground forums for 1 bitcoin, which was trading on Wednesday at around $6,500. At least one other user was posting a link for anyone to download it for free. The researcher, who declined to be named, said he had seen at least 10 people on an online forum in the “dark web” download the data before it was taken offline. “Discussion in the dark web shows a huge interest,” he said. Time stamps indicate the leaked data was last updated between May and July 2014, Lowyat.net said. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-malaysia...a-idUSKBN1D13JM This post has been edited by annoymous1234: Nov 13 2017, 11:16 PM |

QUOTE(annoymous1234 @ Nov 14 2017, 12:12 AM) Waah… That means you downloaded illegal data?Technically yes, the data might be illegal. But any geek can find it online, it’s a google search away. I’m just making the data available to the ‘normals’, people who don’t look around in hacker forums. Plus all data is masked, so only the first 4 and last 2 digits of the phone number is available. Which is almost as good as the masking of credit card numbers on your printed receipts. I also don’t publish any names or addresses. If you’re unhappy with this, you should be unhappy with the Election Commission website that publishes your name in FULL on their website upon entering just an IC number. So go ahead and check. If you’re unhappy let me know — I’ll note your displeasure. |

As far as I know, everyone kena since it covered all telcos.
If you want a clean slate, then just change number. This unfortunately is very inconvenient mainly because out phone numbers are now tied bank OTP and for gamers like me, to our Steam account as well. Already my number and family also kena scam calls, SMS, whatapp etc. This post has been edited by Skidd Chung: Nov 14 2017, 12:34 AM |

Well……
The breach includes not just Telco data but Jobstreet and various other sources as well. Let’s just focus on Telco because that’s the big one. There’s only 2 possibilities on where the telco data came from: Someone hacked into individuals telcos and took it; or Someone hacked a central source with all the data Now, consider that all Telco’s are in this breach — including Altel, PLDT, Redtone, etc. Which self-respecting hacker, with the skills to hack Maxis, Digi and Celcom, is going to waste time on Altel? Really?! Consider also, that if you downloaded the data, (which I obviously have), it’s clear as day where the leak came from. It’s so clear, Stevie Wonder can see where the data was leaked from. I’m hoping over the next few days somebody somewhere will make an announcement. In the mean-time stay safe Malaysia. |

From the website:
QUOTE Unfortunately, there’s little you can do. Your IC number is a permanent fixture of your life –and can’t be changed. So those are the top 3 (4 if you count IC Numbers) data elements in the breach, and unfortunately their almost all there. Since I cannot do anything. Is it important to change the phone? Also need to change phone number as well? Anyone changing their number or just remaining as it is? |

QUOTE(Fighteden @ Nov 14 2017, 08:34 AM) no point? Have you heard about identity theft? Yes. i'm talking about data breach not the website. If the fella have the data and people finding him to get real data with money how.. ?And i just don't understand your points, it's very incoherent. . We are talking about the data breach, not the website itself As i mention, website data is useless even thou he put in github account because the problem not the website but the data breach. |

Well I have three nos on my IC. And it is matched.
I also cross check with my family IC no and all their no is matched also. So we are doomed? And another thing one of my no I use is always registered with my dad IC until today but surprisingly Maxis link my IC and my dad’s IC to my number so maybe that is why the scammer call and think my number is my dad’s so stupid scammer. Kena troll balik. 😂 But why Maxis do that huh? |

its csv files. postpaid is mark with post_* and prepaid with pre_*
each file contains ~1 million records. Compared to the rest of the telcos, Only the maxis file is broken down this way ie ~1 million records in each file. The reason is simple - excel has a ~1 million row limit. That list however is incomplete. The Maxis dump floating around is corrupted. We had to fix the zip archive to get all the data out. From the looks of the pastebin dump, they skipped the corrupted files. |

As long as you have a phone number before 2014, most likely u kena ad. But they have your number and address. Thats the problem. They say will affect your phone, i dont think so, since 2014 i changed both my simcards already. So cant trace. Only my house address... =_= fml.

What if you keep your number all away from 2013 and use until now but you change your sim card from postpaid to prepaid?
So been pawned means they already have your data? |

So today i received a scam call from 010-2560260 (+60102560260) claiming to be from celcom looking for a 'Faridah'
This is a new number I've been using for a year or so. I played a long with my manly voice and say that "yes I'm Faridah" "Betul kah ini Faridah dengan IC: 900205**5502?" (wow they dare to read out the IC number too) "Ya betul!" i replied And Of course the caller (who is a malay girl) didnt believe me and hang up When i key in that IC number in www.sayakenahack.com, guess what my existing number is listed (although it is censored, i can obviously identify which number is mine) |

As someone working in IT security for the past 10 years and get regular update on how and why it happened ... good guess but no and noso much for PDPA, someone probably hacked the MCMC database or probably MCMC themselves sold our info to 3rd party (like some political party at least I changed my phones last year so the IMEI isn't the anymore... |

Well, i did advise him against putting up the site. Honestly we did consider setting up a cross check site when we first discovered the data breach, but end of the day, its not our data to manipulate. Also, the information contained in data is not the usual email/password that can be easily changed. |

Doesn't the affected party have the right to check whether their data is part of the breach? He did the right thing. The government should be the one that did this, but I'm not at all sure what they're doing. ID Theft is a serious issue and unfortunately, the least aware people are also the most vulnerable... QUOTE(janszmatt @ Nov 16 2017, 02:52 PM) But no one in power is doing shit and diam2 only, then comes along this white hat to bring awareness. yes, we were pushing for the telcos to make a statement, but they turned around and said its under investigation so they can't comment. we considered putting it up a similar check site when we first got the data, but its still 'stolen' data, so we contacted the telcos again to request for their permission, and again it got turned down. so yes, keith is the good guy here, but as i had mentioned to him a few weeks back, its a bit of a walking on egg shell situation here which could go either way. |

This sort of 'leak' has little direct impact on individuals, as long as they do not answer unsolicited voice calls and messages. Those who are affected the most are organizations and people who use purely such information to identify others. This makes their existing recording processes a complete waste of time and a joke. Because they cannot rely on it to trace or verify anything anymore. What they get is genuine, but belongs to unrelated people. When they cannot trace, whatever outstanding will translate into their loss.

QUOTE(53x0r @ Nov 16 2017, 07:08 PM) mine got data stolen also but funny thing is 1 of the number listed is unknown to me.. dunno y it got linked to my IC.. postpaid somemore zzzzz This one happened to many people. They use your IC to get their plan. Call the telco and asked if your IC been used for any plan. If so, better ask them to cancel as it usually done by scammer |

QUOTE(Stigonboard @ Nov 16 2017, 08:28 PM) This just reinforced that you typically believe hearsay and rumours without talking to real industry people regarding this security breach I based it on clues and/or hints given by this page and keith rozario's.if it's not that agency, then which other agency has all of those data and which agency 'lost'/'sold'/'databse hacked'/database breached then? |

I noticed some people here either acting stupid and wanted to spin and cover up or they just reply without even checking and twist their words for the sake of internet keyboard warrior's fame and to look worthy and 'smart'.
To be honest, you just make yourself look more stupid to the people who knows what's going on. I'll just leave this here https://www.lowyat.net/2014/35442/public-ce...g-service-mcmc/ |
