if you're purely using reason, it's more than enough. Unless you have more than 2 MIDI keyboards/controllers. But usually it's always a keyboard + control pads (like the AKAI). I used to run Reason on a USB stick soundcard and the latency wasn't that bad at all.I'm thinking to get my hands on this E-MU 1616M cardbus.

Of course if you're planning to record live bands, then 6 inputs is not really enough as the drums would take up 7-8 mics depending on how you mic. But the ADAT port will allow for extra 8 channels which would help cover up but of course then you'd need to buy an extra AD/DA converter. But i assume you won't be doing live recording on a laptop.
