Dun expect high speed with 3G. If you can get 384kbps is consider very good for 3G.

Do you know that the 384Kbps using Celcom 3g feels a lot faster compared to Screamyx's 1.5Mbps line????

i m always wondering, does celcom 3g gives u hsdpa speed (3.5g) or just 3g speed nia?
*
if i'm not mistaken, celcom doesn't have 3.5g for consumers
3.5g is only for corporate users, i guess
anyway, it all depends on your signal strength

Easiest is by doing a speed test with server outside Malaysia .. I've always getting around 1.5Mbps when testing with Jaring or TMNet speedtest servers. But connecting to my office VPN (UK), it feels like I'm connected at dial-up speed. Switching to Celcom 3g which eventhough gives only 384kbps.. I feel my VPN connection is much more responsive. Did a speedtest with zdnet.UK .. and guess what .. my download speed is only at 115kbps (on streamyx).. No time to test on Celcom 3G tho at the moment.

Got a chance to test out zdnet UK speed test on Celcom 3g. I'm getting 244kbps .. double the speed that I'm getting from streamyx. It seems that Streamyx international link is really .. really .. really .. S L O W ! ! ! .. especially on traffics to/from Europe.

yes, playing wolfenstein ET, i'll get ping up to 500-999, thats 0.5seconds delay shakehead.gif . US and UK. HK, i'll get ~100+

yo, check if theres any bandwidth limit. pointless if you only get 3GB a month, like maxis sweat.gif

i use like 50GB/month wink.gif

streamyx is now throttling torrent. but depend on location, you may get good speeds. i get good speeds at night

I'm using Celcom 3G with a Nokia 6280. Speeds are quite okay and most of the time I get close to about 80% of the 384Kbs speed. However, ping times are usually quite high even to local website usually around 300-400ms.

The IP I get is usually 219 range.

The package does not have a limit and BT is possibly throttled.

I never see the celcom 3g but maxis did. Maxis is using 1 special 3g modem like our boardband modem partern and it have the hole to slot in ur maxis 3g sim card to make the connection.

I also want to know that is it we can use our 3g phone to act like a modem then we no need to pay the monthly modem rental fee (RM18). If it can use as modem, then is it the speed ll effect or normal?

Celcom has equipped some of their base stations with 3.6mbps capability. HSDPA speed, in terms of download bandwidth, maxes out at 7.2mbps currently; this is what is being tested in Singapore (or maybe even offered already). Of course, since it is assymetric, upload speed still suck. That's why we now have HSUPA, but upload speed will still be less than download.

@madhatter2k, thanks for the info. I wonder why the h3ll they advertised in Harian Metro and not in the other newspapers. They sure work in strange ways.

Finally, I can confirm that for the D50 packages which were offered for a very short time some time ago, the speed is now capped at 1mbps. D50 is supposed to be the same package as D120 when they offered it. So, even though they tell you that 3GX is 3.6mbps capable, they cap your speed at 1mbps even though your modem is well capable of supporting 3.6mbps. So, it sucks, big time...and is very misleading advertising.

I'm using Celcom 3.5G HSDPA Area near Subang. 3G will have less freq interrupt noise compare to piggyback on copper link(Streamyx) So you might notice slight improvement in connections eventhough the speed is lesser.

so far, since bt is ok. so surfing should be better.

Just go register and have a try for one month, and you decide by urself, no contract with maxis. so just go and register with maxis.

i have 3 friends moved from celcom 3g to maxis 3g, they found maxis is better than celcom.

I think in term of the coverage, celcom is better. but in term of stability maxis is the one. My friends told me. Celcom always changes from HSDPA to UMTS and sometime drop to GPRS.

Normally my connection is fine more than 10 hours. for me if 3g network can sustains for more than that without disconnect, that should be fine.

Celcom 3G Broadband has a 5GB cap. Dunno whether it is strictly enforced. But it's in the T&C so you can't really complain.

The T&C btw, is laid out over 10 pages using Flash. You cannot copy the text or resize it.

Check it out yourself at:

http://www.celcom.com.my/cep/xresources/ce...band/index.html

I find it amusing that they regard 5GB / month as "extremely high usage". In that case, they should not be advertising it as "unlimited".

Screencapt attached.

Biasalah Siowcom. "Terpantas", "Terluas", "Tiada Tandingan" but no 3.5G coverage in a significant part of KL, and whewre there is, slow! The only place which has guaranteed good speed is Celcom tower at Jalan Tun Razak (A Celcom staff wanted to show how his company was soooo much better than U Mobile but only dare benchmark there tongue.gif ). All crappy marketing lines only...

See the problems with 3G broadbands?

Look below those tempting digits and you'll find extremely high pings.

This is why streamyx is still preferred by so many Malaysians.
