Can’t decide between the A5100 or G7X. I want the G7X because the videos or pictures captured with it are all brighter than using A5100. Also it has Image Stabilization (that is a must because my hands are very shaky lol). But damn the focus on A5100 is undefeatable. Im leaning towards the G7X though just because it has Image Stabilization and the A5100 doesnt.

Have you actually bought the cameras yet? Earlier you said you were deciding between A6000 and G7X and finally decided with the A6000. Or are you now deciding to let go of the A6000 and 'downgrade' to the A5100?

G7X is a fixed lens compact, whereas the A5100/A6000 is a mirrorless camera. With the 16-50 kit lens, you DO get image stabilization.

When you mentioned that the G7x gives a 'brighter' image, do you mean the view on the LCD? If so, ever occurred to you that the test unit you were having hands-on were not set at the same LCD brightness? Or were the camera settings comparable between the tests? I also hope you're aware that the G7x (and G7x markII) is a 1 inch sensor but the A5100/A6000 is an APSC one.

Reason I asked cause I never heard of camera store agreeing on 1 to 1 exchange plus compensation if trade with item of not equivalent value, in this case a5100 with a6000. In America I know some people can return back the camera if not happy but in Malaysia, don't think about it. Somemore you bought it half a year ago.

If the store got receive and resell second hand goods, then maybe you can negotiate some kind of deal but I don't think they going to let you resell to them at same price as a5100 otherwise they will lose money.

Best bet would be you try selling a6000 yourself at mark down price and use that money to buy a5100.

Yep. The shop where I bought the Sony A6000 from will take it for RM1300 (meaning I’ll have to add another RM1200 for the G7X Mark II). I’m waiting for the other shop to reply. I might have to stick with the Sony A6000 sad.gif

update: the other shop said I’ll have to add another RM500 for G7X Mark II.

So I’ve been comparing Sony A6000 to Canon G7X Mark II for quite awhile and at the end I bought the Sony A6000 because of various reasons. It was so hard to decide because I want the Canon G7X Mark II so bad as it has the 180 degrees rotating screen, while the Sony A6000 can only be flipped 90 degrees. But for all the other aspects, I think the Sony A6000 defeats the Canon G7X Mark II, and that’s why I bought it. My main purpose of buying a camera is to take travel pictures and also for vlogs. So a 180 degrees flip screen is a must so I can look at myself when vlogging (also for selfies). At first, I thought there would be alternatives for the lack of 180 degrees flip out screen on the Sony A6000. I’ve been doing some research on that and it looks like there isn’t any. I am no pro at this camera stuff, so I would like to ask if it’s possible to send it to the camera shop and ask them to do some repairs on the camera/screen so it can flip 180 degrees? (I could send it back to the shop and swap it with the Canon G7X Mark II but I love the picture and video quality on the Sony A6000 more so i dont really want to swap cry.gif ) Or if you guys have any other recommendations, it’d be great to know.

Thanks! biggrin.gif

ps: I wouldn’t recommend you suggesting me different cameras. Let’s just focus on these 2 cameras.

A6000 got wifi support?...

if so, then just use your smartphone as the monitor,
u can also use a shoe mount and attach your smartphone on the top of the camera so u can see yourself..

I’ve bought the A6000 and planning to downgrade.
The kit lens does have Image Stabilization? I’ve seen videos on YouTube and it seems like the G7X stabilizes video very well, while the Sony A6000 still looks shaky.
No. I mean the actual video. The G7X is better for lowlight. And yes I’m aware of that matter but i don’t really know what’s the difference or at least i’ve seen comparison videos and it doesn’t bother me much besides the blurrier background on the A6000, I kinda ignored it.

How much should I be selling it at then? Idk if the shop where I bought the camera at is a freaking rip off or what (i looked at lazada and the camera is sold at RM2500 or lower), but I bought it at RM29++. That camera shop sells G7X Mark II at RM2399 (havent asked other camera shops though). I don’t want to add money because the A6000 is very well taken care of. It looks like it’s brand new! Plus the fact that it is more expensive than G7X Mark II.

I would suggest selling at same price as a5100. Rm2900 may not be far off if you bought it outside kl.

So? You use it to frame the shot not watch live video of yourself.

Would people want to buy a second hand camera that is sold at almost or a higher price than a brand new one? I saw one (brand new) that is sold at as low as RM2100 sad.gif I’ll just try my luck I guess

......of course not. I would sell it at rm1800 or lower. But if your area, most store selling at rm2.9k then perhaps you can resell much higher.

RM1800 sounds about right for a used A6000. Sorry TS, RM2.9k is too much.

I agree with others, A5100 is a fantastic choice for vlogs. Exact same image quality as the A6000.

FYI the A5100 doesn't have image stabilization but the 16-50 lens does.

I've watched this video, maybe this is the one you were referring to about the Canon is brighter in low light?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKB94thA8wE

It's more to the auto settings.. the Canon tend to overexpose (brighter than ideal) and the Sony underexpose (darker than ideal). Personally I find underexposure is easier to correct in software. But the point of having a flip up screen is that you can always adjust the settings on the fly.

But when it comes to low light performance, skip to about 9:00 when he's in the car. The colour of the Canon gets quite ugly (reddish skin colour), most likely due to the limitations of the smaller sensor (degradation at high ISO). Same happens at the end of the video when he's outside the house.

But if you look at this video, https://youtu.be/5-DWhrNIi_Y — somewhere around 5:02 you can see the Sony A5100 video is very, very shaky compared to the Canon G7X (6:03). The G7X is very smooth.

.......then get the g7x. If you want best of both worlds, then you have to fork out more with gimbal.
