So I’ve been comparing Sony A6000 to Canon G7X Mark II for quite awhile and at the end I bought the Sony A6000 because of various reasons. It was so hard to decide because I want the Canon G7X Mark II so bad as it has the 180 degrees rotating screen, while the Sony A6000 can only be flipped 90 degrees. But for all the other aspects, I think the Sony A6000 defeats the Canon G7X Mark II, and that’s why I bought it. My main purpose of buying a camera is to take travel pictures and also for vlogs. So a 180 degrees flip screen is a must so I can look at myself when vlogging (also for selfies). At first, I thought there would be alternatives for the lack of 180 degrees flip out screen on the Sony A6000. I’ve been doing some research on that and it looks like there isn’t any. I am no pro at this camera stuff, so I would like to ask if it’s possible to send it to the camera shop and ask them to do some repairs on the camera/screen so it can flip 180 degrees? (I could send it back to the shop and swap it with the Canon G7X Mark II but I love the picture and video quality on the Sony A6000 more so i dont really want to swap
Thanks! ps: I wouldn’t recommend you suggesting me different cameras. Let’s just focus on these 2 cameras. This post has been edited by Tectorisms: Nov 5 2017, 10:48 PM |

External monitor is the only choice, having the same dilemma as you. At the end, I didn't even bother about it anymore.

This advice might be a bit too late, but if you had wanted a screen facing forward, you could've taken a look at A5100 instead. Pretty much same innards as the A6000 (minus EVF and hot shoe though).

QUOTE(kyLL @ Nov 6 2017, 02:47 AM) so fierce! I can’t seem to find a HDMI one in local online stores (even if there is, it will be as expensive as a new camera lol). Plus it’s bulky and i’ll have to mount and dismount the thing because my camera bag won’t fit the whole thing.TS, you could try getting an external monitor like this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQKgaB29-Q4 QUOTE(-kytz- @ Nov 6 2017, 12:35 AM) 2) To get a camera phone to mount on your A6000's hotshoe to be used as a screen for the camera. Connect your phone to the camera via remote I might try this one if I really don’t want to swap cameras. Although I’ll have to suffer with the bad fps on the phone using the live view thingy. Kind of the best known alternative if I want to keep the Sony A6000.https://9to5mac.files.wordpress.com/2016/05...2&w=1600&h=1000 QUOTE(ISawYou @ Nov 6 2017, 11:19 AM) Do you often do vlogs or take selfies? Pretty much same innards as the A6000 (minus EVF and hot shoe though). Oh yeah I’ve been comparing the G7X Mark II with the Sony A5100. Tbh I don’t really care about the EVF. I would trade the EVF with a 180 flip up screen on the Sony A6000 if I could I’m not sure if I could switch though because I bought the Sony A6000 in March 2017 although the camera got no scratch or whatever. I should be able to though because both Sony A5100 and Canon G7X Mark II is cheaper than the Sony A6000. This post has been edited by Tectorisms: Nov 6 2017, 12:16 PM |

I used to take lots of selfies, but without the flip screen it is not as good as previously. what I did was take several shots until i get the nice ones.
practice the angle and distance needed to hold the camera, and also to center the lens. |

In America I know some people can return back the camera if not happy but in Malaysia, don't think about it. Somemore you bought it half a year ago.Um why? Did I say anything wrong? For all other aspects, the A5100 wins easily. I might go for the G7X just because it has Image Stabilization and the A5100 doesnt. If the store got receive and resell second hand goods, then maybe you can negotiate some kind of deal but I don't think they going to let you resell to them at same price as a5100 otherwise they will lose money. Best bet would be you try selling a6000 yourself at mark down price and use that money to buy a5100. This post has been edited by TrialGone: Nov 7 2017, 06:35 PM |

Earlier you said you were deciding between A6000 and G7X and finally decided with the A6000. Or are you now deciding to let go of the A6000 and 'downgrade' to the A5100?G7X is a fixed lens compact, whereas the A5100/A6000 is a mirrorless camera. With the 16-50 kit lens, you DO get image stabilization. When you mentioned that the G7x gives a 'brighter' image, do you mean the view on the LCD? If so, ever occurred to you that the test unit you were having hands-on were not set at the same LCD brightness? Or were the camera settings comparable between the tests? I also hope you're aware that the G7x (and G7x markII) is a 1 inch sensor but the A5100/A6000 is an APSC one. This post has been edited by lwliam: Nov 7 2017, 06:39 PM |

I’ve seen videos on YouTube and it seems like the G7X stabilizes video very well, while the Sony A6000 still looks shaky. No. I mean the actual video. The G7X is better for lowlight. And yes I’m aware of that matter but i don’t really know what’s the difference or at least i’ve seen comparison videos and it doesn’t bother me much besides the blurrier background on the A6000, I kinda ignored it. |

But if your area, most store selling at rm2.9k then perhaps you can resell much higher. |

RM1800 sounds about right for a used A6000. Sorry TS, RM2.9k is too much.
I agree with others, A5100 is a fantastic choice for vlogs. Exact same image quality as the A6000. FYI the A5100 doesn't have image stabilization but the 16-50 lens does. I've watched this video, maybe this is the one you were referring to about the Canon is brighter in low light? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKB94thA8wE It's more to the auto settings.. the Canon tend to overexpose (brighter than ideal) and the Sony underexpose (darker than ideal). Personally I find underexposure is easier to correct in software. But the point of having a flip up screen is that you can always adjust the settings on the fly. But when it comes to low light performance, skip to about 9:00 when he's in the car. The colour of the Canon gets quite ugly (reddish skin colour), most likely due to the limitations of the smaller sensor (degradation at high ISO). Same happens at the end of the video when he's outside the house. This post has been edited by dvlzplayground: Nov 14 2017, 05:25 AM |

(I could send it back to the shop and swap it with the Canon G7X Mark II but I love the picture and video quality on the Sony A6000 more so i dont really want to swap DeletedThanks! ps: I wouldn’t recommend you suggesting me different cameras. Let’s just focus on these 2 cameras. This post has been edited by calvintiffy: Dec 15 2017, 03:57 AM |
