I want to search for posts containing an ip, eg "219.93.218.176" But the search function returns no results. Used google, no go. then i tried wildcard like 219*176 -> too many results!
So can we search for patterns like "192.168.1.1" or "192-168-1-1" etc......

Ahh.. looks like google didn't index the topics containing that IP. Shame "219.93.218.176" can't be searched for because the words in the fulltext index are separated by non(alphanumeric or underscore) characters. So in the index, that appears as 219, 93, 218, 176 separately. Furthermore, there's a cut-off of 3 characters, so you need to omit 93 from the search. I add some underscore padding (which I may change soon..) to words that are 3 chars long to get it up to the 4-char MySQL default minimum length for inclusion into the fulltext index. When entering boolean queries, you need to have this padding. Ok.. cut to the chase. The query you should enter is thus: +219_ +"218_ 176_"

QUOTE(wKkaY @ Apr 17 2007, 01:26 PM) So in the index, that appears as 219, 93, 218, 176 separately. Ah... no wonder no results. Added on April 17, 2007, 1:52 pmQUOTE(wKkaY @ Apr 17 2007, 01:26 PM) The query you should enter is thus: +219_ +"218_ 176_"Thanks! Putting underscore works. Out of curiosity i also tried +219* +"218* 176*" but failed. Shouldn't the asterisk, while acting as wildcard, also "bring it up to the 4 char limit"? The MySQL fulltext engine doesn't expand wildcards in phrases Try this instead: +219* +218* +176*
