For those prepaid number has been expired and try to seek assistance from your telco to reactivate the number, No need to try anymore.. as per latest SKMM rules, expired prepaid number reactivation request can longer be done via walk-in, call or online. SKMM has removed their access for this service since past 1-2 weeks. Insider info from my friends who working at Maxis and Digi.

i thought prepaid number expiry is controlled by telcos. they set the grace period (50, 60 or 90 days) and release the mnp number back to the original telco when necessary. where and how does skmm come into play?

Yes, if you top up within the grace period, the number will be of course still belong to you. However, if your prepaid number has been expired (terminated) due to no top up within the grace period, then sorry to say, you wont be able to reactivate it anymore.

This is because as per New SKMM rules, any prepaid number activation request must be via walk-in with IC verification. For expired number, their statement is to advise the customer to purhcase the new sim pack with new number. The Digi center staff (my friend) even showed the statement to me which they received from SKMM via email when I walk-in and request to reactivate my expired prepaid number during the past 1-2 weeks...

you mentioned telco's access was removed by skmm. does skmm provide a tool to telcos? other than issuing directives and letters, how does skmm control the expiry of prepaid? i know many telcos allow expired prepaid be upgraded to postpaid.

For your info, certain access such as phone Imei block are tools provided by skim to Telco. For prepaid reactivation, the tool is own and develop by Telco, however, it was the instructions SKMM to all the Telco to discontinue this service. For your info, SKMM is the government's bodies who managing and control all the Telco firm in Malaysia

ok, so skmm did not remove their access after all.

imho, this is kinda gray area that telcos can monetize. since numbers are recycled, telcos could recycle the number into a new sim pack and sell it to the previous owner for more $$$$ smile.gif

fyi, imei block is to block phones, not prepaid numbers. skmm may supply the blacklisted imei's but it is the telco who implements the blocking.
