my WD drive died on me after about 6 months of usage. lol. 3TB drive. and 1 of my 3TB seagate also died on me. hahhaa.. xD

WD might move their PJ plant eventually I think, but still within Klang Valley. In any case, Malaysia is like their regional HQ. Highly unlikely they will leave anytime soon.

On a more serious note, Seagate seems fucked. Closed their China branch early this year.

I've been avoiding them for a while, but I just noticed my laptop is using Seagate and it's been running through all sorts of hell for the past 4.5 years. My WDD caviar black desktop disk just KOed after 1.5 years.

Not all part were flooded. My company has plant in Thailand too but on higher ground. So, WD wanted to rent our empty space but our CEO gave them FOC.

Yes many manufacturing that are human intensive moving to Thailand. Cheaper labor? Not sure. However, European companies are looking for manufacturing partners in this region as well, not China because China famous with uncontrolled copies of products even before the products are released into market.

Recently just clean my room and found back my first PC's hdd (1999 Seagate 8.5GB), tested and still kicking alive , while few year back WD Hdd (2 pcs) died

I got another Seagate hdd from 2006 macbook, been using it as external hdd, still kicking strong.

thats why WD suddenly come out some SSD. WD remain the SanDisk brand.
