All in all it has been a memorable great season, just like when Alonso finally toppled MS. MS was about to win the title also in Suzuka until his engine blew up, a miracle for Alonso.

Overall I think yes but like you said mainly due to it's reliability and cosistency, not necessarily pure pace. First half looked to be RB but 2nd half seemed Merc so about 50/50 in speed. This is difficult to judge because SP is only in his first year and not as consistent hence RB still lost constructor which is normally a good indicator of car performance. If RB also won constructor, then easier to say RB is also a better car.

Another possible reason is they turned up the fuel to full lean to match LH during the defence and not expected to reach the end, boxed him to avoid unnecessary penalty.
