MV about half a sec ahead in FP2, not sure if Mercs are sandbagging like they often do. Will be interedting if SP can match MV in his home race.

See, Mercs was sandbagging and suddenly starting Q2 they got much closer then won front row in Q3. Notice the top speed advantage, Mercs about 10-12kph faster than RB on the front straight!

Yeah, the only real fight was SP trying to catch LH but then stuck twice in that under 1 sec gap without able to pass. Mercs though has very very high top speed so not easy to pass.

VB is like that, not so good in overtaking or dueling. If LH I think he would have passed.

Well still many points on offer so it's not over until the fat lady sings but yeah, things are not looking that good for them. Even worse is RB has caught up in the constructors too due to VB non scoring.

19 pts advantage for MV so still less than 1 race margin with 4 races to go. It's still not comfortable enough for MV cuz just a technical issue or an accident in 1 race can level them back. MV still needs to beat LH or win some races to be champ, he still cannot afford to play too safe. If he already got 1.5 race point margin then he could relax a bit and just focus on finishing right behind LH. So LH still got a decent chance if he can win the remaining races but not necessarily have to be Mercs 1-2 yet.

I think is Mercs chance is better on the constructor title now.

Yes, if he wins in Brazil then he would have over 1 race margin so that he just needs to finish 2nd or right behind LH in the remaining 3 races to be champ.

To be fair MV should have at least 2 or even 3 more wins if not for the tire blow out in Baku plus getting taken out in Silverstone and Hungary. He should have gotten 1 hand on the title by now if not for those unlucky incidents.

Yeah Honda has come a long way from the GP2 engine comment from Alonso. They really gel with RB unlike the toxic relationship with McLaren and Alonso.

Anyway uphill battle for LH, he can still realistically finish 2nd but will need luck to win this race now.

Yes but st least now Honda is competitive in the ball park, not far behind like back then.

Good job by both Mercs especially the recovery drive by LH. RB should be rather dissapointed, especialy SP for getting stuck and not able to make any impression to Sainz, that's the difference between just good enough drivers and title winners.

I think the best LH can hope is 3rd, if lucky can get 2nd. VB surely will make way for him.

If VB can stay ahead of MV then LH can win but if MV manages to pass VB to 1st then might be tough for LH to win.

I mean if VB can stay in front, he may hamper MV so that MV cannot run away ahead and LH has a chance to catch and pass MV. If MV can pass VB and run away in front then more difficult for LH to catch up.

Judging by how fast he came from the back, podium or 2nd place are still realistic.

Maybe tire choice is not much option here so grid position more important.
