I also vaguely remember a situation. 2 strikers had got past the defending goalkeeper. There was one defender on the line. One of the strikers had passed the ball to the other who slotted it in. The goal was disallowed for offside, why? For it not to be offside, at least two (not one) defending players must be in front of these two strikers if they were to pass to one another. People don't notice this rule because the keeper is still on the line and is normally the last defender. In this case, the keeper had already come off his line and the strikers had passed him.

Can someone clarify this? My memory of it is a little fuzzy.

Can a player and goalkeeper exchange position during a game?

Yes, Jorge Campos used to play as both a striker and goalkeeper for his club in Mexico.

QUOTE
Jorge Campos Navarrete (nicknamed El Brody or Chiqui-Campos) (born October 15, 1966) is a Mexican football coach and former goalkeeper, one of the most notable Mexican players of the 1990s. Campos was a particularly eccentric player, known for his constant play outside the penalty area, his acrobatic style in goal, and his attire. His strength in goal was his leaping ability, which made him able to overcome his relatively low height of 1.75 m (5 ft 9 in). He recently enrolled into the oratory school as a coaching assistant for the 2007 season, saying that it is possibly one of the best youth teams he's coached. His namesake is his star player.

Born in Acapulco, Mexico, Campos also made for an effective striker, an example of rare versatility in football. At times, he would start a game in goal, and transfer upfield later in the match, mostly at the club level. His trademark, self-designed bright kits contributed to his popularity.

If you're talking about the Columbian dude who executed the 'scorpion save' at Wembley, it's Rene Higuita @ 'El Loco'. Not the same person.

1 question though, if Campos' teammate were to handle the ball, can? his teammate can say he and Campos switched position ma:P
Whoever is playing keeper has to be wearing a goalkeepers kit. Don't think it will be a problem identifying who supposed to be in goal. It's not like in wrestling when a tag team pair put on the same looking mask and uniform.
