Thanks, i still prefer the sleeping buddha at the back pic though. Still it is a wonderful place to take pics. While i was in bangkok i do saw a few photographers with D40. There one ang moh who i met in the sleeping buddha area who is also using a D40. He told me "good camera huh?" tongue.gif

Well when i post scenery pics, i found my thread has slower/quiet response. once i post some lenglui/models, my thread will be visited alot. Sigh sweat.gif

QUOTE(diwant @ May 25 2007, 07:02 PM)
well composition wise, not bad but still can improve.. i saw a lot of repeated subjects throughout the temples, so why not try various angles to make it look like some kind of abstract patterns instead of normal eye-level shots?

in this kind of place, it's good to look for patterns to make the subject more interesting...
*
eh ur comment is the exactly same with the one above in post 141. sweat.gif

A little comment on chao phaya, its is a boat ride for almost 1 hours across tyhe chao phaya river. Wood houses and a num of temples were located in both side of the river. The river was choppy when my photography took place so some pics looked shakey. Perhaps a VR lens might help. wink.gif

Haven't got time to slowly wait for all pictures to load but I like some of your composition, for example this.

It's ok... I also dun have lenglui's in my thread. It's ok... cool2.gif

Haha thanks for ur comments. I have better examples of composition on the Vol 4: Scenes from Bangkok and Vol 1: Chatuchak Market instead.

Well my main topic for these Bangkok pics is giving a imagery of how is life in Bangkok. That is why i try my best to put priority on composition to get the best result of it. Anyway i enjoy taking scenery/urban life pictures. smile.gif

Taking lenglui is just to gain attention from other ppl somehow, haha! tongue.gif

You made Esther look so blur. You're really handshaking at 1/250

Thanks for ur comments!

1. Thew wordings were blurred coz the car is inside the window, in which i using a normal UV filter, not polar ones. My focus is on the num 1. sweat.gif

2. That the problem, coz the lens is small so its hard to stablize the lens. I dont have that problem when using a slightly larger kit lens. How i wish there is VR for 50mm lens. sweat.gif

check back the pic for your response on #1. i'm not taking about the red fairlady

50mm at 1/250 shouldn't be blur. practice more. the other one with phoenie and esther also the same prob even at 1/40

I c, my bad for reffering to the wrong pic. In that case will flash helps?

QUOTE(Gadget_Freak @ Jun 16 2007, 10:53 PM)
i'll giving comments about technical wise not composition.

first of all, as usual, when ppl get 50mm, they will very fanatic about f1.8  laugh.gif

i notice a lot of pics shooted at f1.8, pls remember photos not always necessary to be so bokeh, i know u want to try it out but pls prevent it.

the DOF is so narrow at f1.8 and coupled with manual focusing with ur D40, it is nearly impossible to get the subject in focus especially if u shoot ppl face..

if u want bokeh/wide aperture, this lens is sharpest at f2.8.

for me, only shoot at f1.8 if u really desperate and no other choice OR the focusing distance is somewhat far with poor lighting condition.

as for manual focusing with ur D40, use the focusing green lamp to help u, the focusing will lamp will based on ur focusing point, remember to see where is ur focusing point.
pls trust the green lamp and not ur eyes.
long time didn't gv so serious comment, lol..of coz it is not related to any gals portrait..lol
*
So are u telling me use f2.8 is good enough for the majority of portrait shots? I do recall alot of my pics aren't using f1.8. I checking based on my eyes and the green lamp blinking.

Thanks for ur comments though. Looks like i have a long way to go to improve my shots with 50 mm lens.

QUOTE(afs @ Jun 17 2007, 12:18 PM)
Seems like u struggling using MF with the 50mm coz i think in this kind of event u have to be quick....
*
That explains why alot of photographers in that time aren't using 50mm lens instead using zoom or kit lens. Well my shots went back to normal and satisfactionary once i swapped with my kit lens. Will upload the remaining later smile.gif

QUOTE(ac98 @ Jun 17 2007, 09:06 PM)
My advice to you is use P-mode, dun dabble with Manual mode and manual focusing if you're working under stressful environments like event portraits coz if you're not extremely familiar with your camera, it'll wreck your images.
*
I was using p mode and A mode most of the time while using the 50mm lens. I did tried using M mode which make me puke blood.

As afs mentioned, the problem is its hard to focus when the subject is keep on moving and posing different pose constantly. That explains only the pros can use 50mm lens for such events, and the majority uses zoom/kit lens for such shoots.

Lesson learn. Thanks for ur words smile.gif

QUOTE(diwant @ Jun 17 2007, 10:01 PM)
yeah i believe so.. but why play around with Manual mode in the first place? issit becoz the D40 built-in motor thing??

Your pictures were ruined quite bad it seems.. wait to the next roadshow.. hehe
*
Next one, PC Fair, hope it is much better coz the models will stand rather than constant posing. Also hope my skills will improve. sweat.gif tongue.gif

I reffering to the 50mm lens, which i found difficuly using that lens for constant changes of the subject. It uses manual focus, not af-s lens.

Well lesson learnt that my d40 with 50mm lens is sucky for model posing. But dont worry, i have taken some shots with my kit lens which is af-s, so normal service will resume shorty tongue.gif

For me, i prefer the AF-S + VR combo! brows.gif
